TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration has selected three companies to carry out its expanded, multimillion-dollar program to relocate migrants anywhere in the country, less than a year after the governor sent 49 migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

The program, which could start as soon as contracts are complete, will involve an undetermined number of migrants and could last until June 30, 2025, unless a contract is terminated, state records show. The records don’t indicate when the program will start. DeSantis is expected to launch a campaign for president in the coming weeks.

The Division of Emergency Management has yet to provide copies of the contracts. But according to “notice of intent to award” records published on Monday, the awards will be given to Vertol Systems Company, which was handpicked by DeSantis’ public safety czar to do the migrant flights last year; ARS Global Emergency Management; and GardaWorld Federal Services, an armored truck company that has been investigated for safety violations.

DeSantis readies migrant relocation program again

A couple things that stand out to me

    - The transportation company is being asked to verify that a person is eligible for transport
    - People will be flown from Florida instead of from Texas
    - Social services are to be arranged for migrants at drop off
    - Children are not expected to be relocated
    - You can still look forward to paying double for your homeowner's insurance next year

It is just a shame our politicians are all a-holes and the age of working together for the betterment of the people is a notion long, long gone.

It was not that long ago when 125,000 Marielitos washed up on the shores of Florida in under 160 days. After months of bickering and negotiating, the state of Florida led by Dem Gov Lawton Chiles and the federal government led by Rep George Bush put together an emergency plan to reduce the stress on Florida, reeling from the previous wave of Cuban and Hatian refugees.

Among other elements, it included an agreement by the Federal government to move immigrants immediately to Homestead Air Force Base for processing. Once processed, any allowed to remain in the US would be relocated outside of S Florida and/or out of Florida within 72 hours. The Florida National Guard was mobilized and over 1000 local law enforcement officers were deputized as Federal Mashalls to help deal with the crisis.

It was not perfect. Not everything happened as planned/hoped, but at least the two sides discussed, argued and acted. As was the case back in those days, hardly anyone was completely happy. Yet, everyone received some measure of satisfaction, especially the tax payers of Florida.

I miss those screwed up days. Compared to today, that was Utopia!!

There were abuses and negatives, but on balance Marielitos have been an asset to our nation.

People always ignore the Hatians. Some of the best, hardworking people I have ever been around. All of these different groups have contributed to a better society in my opinion.

I will be the first to confess that no system has ever been perfect in design, implementation or either.

My point was, at least back 30 years ago, we were still trying. Trying to act like one country and trying to act like we cared about our fellow citizens, and fellow human beings.

I honestly believe our country has lost the little bit of that we had, and that is why we are now lost and destined to become a failure.

How does this even help? He already did this, and it had the desired effect of chub-wanking the RW and horrifying anyone left of Reagan. Trump doesn't even need these stunts, he already showed he'd take kids away from parents forever at the drop of a hat. Sending them to a resort is weak sauce.

The type of person this thrills is already a Trumper, and the type of person this bothers is a NONEofYOUer. It is theater for no audience.

It helps his cronies make money from state contracts, who in turn give him money for his political endeavors, thats how all this works. We've already seen it with the textbooks, it puts money in donors pockets, who return the favor.

I used to think he had brilliant political instincts, even if I thought he was abhorrent. So there was a time where I would presume that this was a brilliant move politically.

But I no longer think he has great political instincts. So I'm not sure how well this will play.

Wasn't there some confusion about whether they would enforce the same rules against more recently-arriving Cubans? Have they made that clear yet?

With the impending surge at the border and his imminent announcement of running for POTUS, the timing makes sense. The problem is I don't think this move will sway those that will be voting for Trump

Immigration is one of those issues that cuts across political lines. Usually cannot go wrong being anti-immigration.

I will say I thought he was smart politically to get that guy Scott Atlas, the crazy radiologist that was trumps scientific advisor on COVID, to give the commencement speech at New College. Arguably his most defensible area was COVID handling

They likely wont, just like they exempted police unions from their anti-union legislation. They punish their perceived enemies and exempt their favored constituencies.

Since they know it’s coming I wonder if FMCSA or the FAA can pull registrations of these companies engaging in interstate commerce.

With the added element of FRAUD, since they printed up fake pamphlets and misled the migrants they sent to Martha’s Vinyard.

I actually think the govt (the feds) should do more to disburse people away from the border. What Abbot and Desantis do are little more scumbag political stunts while rewarding their friends financially to the tune of millions of taxpayer funds.

In a rather humorous twist of irony, some of the folks sent to Martha's Vineyard were granted U-Visa's and can no longer be deported.

Migrants shipped to Martha's Vineyard are granted U-visas intended for crime victims after they complained they'd be 'duped' into flights by Ron DeSantis | Daily Mail Online

A prime example of the law of unintended consequences and yes they were duped into those flights by Meatball Ron. They were told jobs and housing would be waiting for them neither of which was true.
    https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/02/us/marthas-vineyard-migrants-perla-huerta/index.html
About 50 migrants were flown last month from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard in two planes organized by Florida’s Republican governor as part of his criticism of the federal government’s immigration and border security policies. Attorneys for the migrants have filed a class action lawsuit, saying they were misled in agreeing to the flights after being told they’d arrive to housing, jobs and help with the immigration process; no one on Martha’s Vineyard knew they were coming, local officials have said.
