Franklin HS competes at the highest level in Tennessee. FHS and the teams they play produce a significant number of P5 recruits. It isn't like he attended a small rural high school.

    Lee McGriff says hello!
I played with McGriff back in junior high when he only weighed 128 lbs.
Lee weighed around 160 in high school.
He walks on at Florida and earns a scholarship. Two years later, Lee earns All-SEC honors.

Ok so now imagine my confusion about people reacting negatively to me saying if our 10 WRs in front of him aren’t good enough to keep him off the field then we are in trouble

I mean we have a couple years of practice film on Spierto now so yes we definitely do know. For every absolute stud walk on, there are 40 who you’ve never heard of it because they never made a shred of impact.

Scouting, film, analytics, …are much better than they were years ago. Much harder to fall through the cracks unless you just started playing football late in HS of are from another country. Players not offered ships at major college programs have flaws. Height, weight, speed, …. It is a reflection of our lack of recruiting and evaluation success if a walk on is getting on field at UF in 2024

I played with Mike Shuman in high school, he wasn’t extremely fast. He had good hands, played qb as a soph, became a receiver and ended getting a scholarship from FSU. Got to the NFL and played a few years starting with the forty miners when OJ was there. Retired from the pros with a good pension after seven or eight years. Speirto looks as fast as Shuman whose forte was running good routes and getting open. We will see if the last couple of years of receivers if most of them excel.

Spierto has shown he has good hands and he's experienced. I've always been curious as to his actual speed. I will celebrate all he achieves at Florida.

It's much funner to be optimistic then pessimistic, and I don't care why this guy suddenly out performed all of our wide receivers but one. We need someone to step up and be the man and I don't see anyone else even close, except Burke. And it would make a great story.

There are not 10 in front of him and how good they are has nothing to do with how good he is

I mean depth charts are a thing. And if what you’re saying is true (it’s not) all you’re doing is proving that we are in trouble - not that he’s good

Unless, of course, Spierto is a good player.

I’m only saying if he good, that’s a good thing. It has no affect on the other receivers

But it obviously does because he would be taking their spots. So if they aren’t good enough to keep their spots, we have a major issue. Because he isn’t good.

    Yeah but he’s not.

There is so much that goes on in spring games that I at least am unaware of it’s possible defense was working on double teams and left spierto uncovered. I am okay waiting till after the Miami game before panicking or anointing him.

You’re really stuck on him not being good. I’ll wait and see.

Jackson was a walkon too and there’s a good chance he starts or at least has a decent load of snaps this year.

How about he’s just good enough to get snaps in a talented wr group. That’s not probable but absolutely possible. They others don’t have to suck for him to be good.

There is something to be said for “do it the right way-effort guys”. Patriots were full of em- like Edelman. Now personally, I’ll take the head case - gimme the ball types all day… but I wouldn’t wrote this guy off.
