Hypothetical question in the title & please neglect trans-men, trans-women, enby, etc. for this thread.

Lots of folks think schools should offer "free" lunch to all students. Lots of folks think schools should offer "free" menstrual products to girls (and HS seniors who are 18 and thus are now women -- but I'm just going to use girls/boys throughout for symmetry), because menstruation is a basic biological reality that affects girls and not boys.

Let's assume both of these sets of folks -- who are largely the same -- win the arguments. Given that 16-year-old boys need maybe 500 more calories per day than girls, should not the schools offer them bigger portions (~150-200 calories worth) to fulfill their need that 16-year-old girls lack?

Why? If someone needs more calories, they dont need to get them all at lunch.

So he should grab those extra calories at breakfast (or dinner)? That's a reasonable position but, if so, why can't she grab that extra tampon before or after school?

Free lunch is an example of one of those equal not equitable things. Everyone should get one, but it doesn’t mean they can get their proportional daily serving of calories in one go lol. Now I think we need to do more to make those school lunches better quality with more options so kids have a better chance of having a good balanced meal. But that’s a separate discussion. Just imo.

So is "everyone gets toilet paper". The scenario for my question is: boys get TP and girls get TP + tampons/pads.

Is this thread really about free lunch or is it a backdoor way to complain about tampons?

It's a backdoor way to complain about: Women's problems: everyones' problems & mens' problems: mens' problems.

I am in favor of free lunch, free schools free healthcare for children. No child should be hungry or sick or uneducated. I never thought about it but toiletries too. Isn’t this what Christ would have wanted?

Every student should get on a scale before lunch and be served a meal proportional in size to their BMI. Also, guys should get tampons too.

Silly thread. Maybe the 100 pound girl should get a lunch that’s 66.7% the size of a 150 pound girl?

How is giving a girl a tampon when there is no male equivalent to menstruation “everyone’s” problem?

Not a silly thread nowadays. In fact this is exactly the kind of thread you’re going to see with where our world is headed.
It wasn’t long ago when Clinton was a normal president with actual moderate ideas.
Now, It’s out of control for both parties.
Common sense has left the building.

TINSTAAFL. School resources are paid from taxes, to which everyone pays. So if schools pay for tampons, their cost is everyone's problem. Of course TP, tampons, lunch, etc. are much cheaper than teachers, administrators, and building maintenance -- but it's the principle.

If you think this is an extreme partisan thread.. to which party do you think I belong? And, if you reply "NPA/independent", which way do you think I've voted in the last few years?

I'm good with this logic. We also need to eliminate high school football since the pads, and maintenance of the fields that taxes pay for only benefit the male players.

I do not think this is a partisan thread.
I think you made a salient point…I already told my wife I wish I had thought of it first.
    Well done new visitor.

Naw. There’s plenty girls sports equipment too to make it fair.

Fair enough -- girls get menstrual pads, boys get football pads. Of course girls and boys both have other sports, but football might skew this just like it does at the college level.

Sure. But the cost of fielding a football team with equipment is far far more than fielding a women's field hockey team. Maybe we just provide jock straps and mouth guards to the football team so it's comparable to the womens field hockey tax expenditure. Deal?

I still like my idea of giving boys menstrual pads too, but I'm also okay with your compromise
