We need to teach the controversy, and I will personally volunteer to author the "evils of capitalism" curriculum. :)

Living in America and just seeing how people live will be education enough for many of these kids, even more so if they have to live it themselves. But perhaps this is their attempt at balance, sure capitalism sucks, but look at this stuff that happened 100 years ago!

You can't go through the paper in the morning and not see at least two "bills" this dweeb signs that are strictly a white nationalists agenda.

I am thinking about getting rid of my subscription but I love reading Maxwell's column

Is that on the opinion page or somewhere else? I'll have to look for it. I find myself scanning headlines lately. It used to take me over an hour to read the paper because I read most of the articles.

She fairly regularly touches on issues of public policy, but that's not really her beat. Quoted her earlier in the thread (Posts 1133, 1336 and 3304). Also look at Post 3559 and this from another thread - Bed Bath & Beyond files for bankruptcy | Page 3 | Swamp Gas Forums

Here's a link to subscribe to her newsletters

Exactly. Why not teach the evils of capitalism? Or the evils of anything you want?

If I were the teacher, I’d focus on the historic tendency of communist leaders to use state institutions to push their favored narratives and cite this very law as a possible example.

Sorry, we'd have to jail you for criticizing the dictator . . . I mean, the governor.

Mr. Prager, Ron DeSantis’ favorite educator, who he thinks should train your children, is in the news again. As if shooting puppies was not extreme enough. Mind you, he goes on to say that only religion condemns incest, which is not quite true. Heck, daughters can get Dad drunk and have a threesome if you follow Biblical morality. But still creepy

If we are all children of God, arent we all committing incest with each other? What do you say to that Mr. Prager?

According to Mr. Prager and his movement, we should rely on scripture for guidance on such matters

“We did this because of book bans,” Groff says. “We want to fight back against the chill of authoritarianism that is creeping across Florida.”

Groff wants to link everyone; the store’s bookshelves proudly display banned books and books by and about LGBTQ+ people and people of color as well as books by Florida writers, popular bestsellers and classics.

Actions by Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis and its Legislature were what pushed her long-simmering bookstore plan to the boil, she says.
