What changed between February and April? We had a streak against them including a lame duck win and they started getting top transfers seems like its more strategy of spending than on field results. Not saying that is certainly the answer but again, nothing has changed from his February commitment to today.
Norval and other coaches got in his ear and talked about going to bowl, games, winning, etc. etc. it’s easy to negative recruit anytime of the year and any day of the week when your team is winning and the other isn’t.
It appears that his cousin transferred from Bama and has been in his ear to join him. That will be hard to overcome.
Nah. If what was said about his cousin is true then that makes more sense.I don't buy the negative recruiting at this point in the timeline of recruiting and football season.
. unfortunately the negative recruiting is happening daily. At some point winning wins out. If your not even sure you’ll make a bowl game, that’s a big deal.
I don't disagree with that. I just don't agree that is what happened here. February was ripe time for negative recruiting and yet he committed to us. Fsu lost a ton off their team as well and lived off of their now departed qb while Lagway has been billed as the real deal. Just doesn't add up timing wise in my opinion.
That makes even more amazing the job this staff did holding onto Lagway and McCray and others they got the top aQB and the top DL. AMAZING JOB by BN and staff and our NIL people.
Why would stud football players care about a bowl game that they're going to opt-out of anyway? /sarcasm
Kinda what I was thinking as well. Honestly don't see the point in all this early "commit" business anymore other than it serves the Rivals, 24/7, On3, ESPN, recruiting services. How many "commits" did UF lose prior to early national signing day? Especially the last 4 - 6 weeks?? I know coaches try to build "recruiting momentum" with early announcements but IMO it's just a bunch of nonsense now. It's an auction out there. Kinda pointless worrying about committments in this environment as the NIL and Transfer Portal insanity continues.
Did Norvell happen to mention that no one respects ACC football so even if you go undefeated you will be overlooked for the playoffs and then get beat by a bowl record 60 points in the bowl game you do get to play in?
Well, they were "holding onto Lagway and McCray" because the on-field product and disarray concerned them very much. Point being, the issue with recruiting was caused by the staff. Had we done better, which we could have with better management, those issues and defections likely would not have been.
I think the 5 game losing streak was devastating, I thought, up to the FSU loss, that UF and Napier had done a magnificent job recruiting, I think we actually got to #2 or #3 at one point before the bottom fell out. I think the combination of the losing streak and the (auction reality) of NIL, derailed a pretty solid effort.
Norvell was a laughing stock year 2 at fsu. Wonder why those transfer kids started lining up for them in year 3? Weird.
The losing didn’t help but I believe your second point played a bigger part. We could have held on to some if we were willing to pay more. For better or for worse we just aren’t willing to throw Lagway level money to Filsaime or Waller. We kept the ones the staff felt like we absolutely had to.
As I mentioned earlier, the timing in Joseph's case doesn't add up for the losing streak to matter. It seems much more plausible to be a factor in the others mentioned along with the whole auction aspect.
Not if he is smart enough. It sounds like Norvel is giving his cousin the maxim from the great Homer Simpson. "You have tried and failed miserably. Moral of the story: never try." That is back dooring into the ACC.
