I'm wondering what happened with the categorical statement that one of our recent presidents made (I'm pretty sure it was Obama) that "we will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons." It looks like if there is anyone who is not going to allow it, it will have to be Israel, the country that really faces the existential threat. But maybe things are going to settle down now, and Iran can proceed on its way to having nuclear weapons (if it doesn't already).

I hope Israel doesn’t stop until every hamas tunnel is discovered and blown to smithereens. Yes, even the ones built under hospitals, stadiums, schools, homes and border. If not, it will all happen again in the near future.

It will happen again anyway. The Palestinians will hate the Israelis for decades to come for the mass killing in Gaza. The Israelis have created the future terrorists who will attack them.

Where does the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria fit into the analogy? It's a tit for tat game that will lead to further escalation in the region.

I think I understand your logic. Once we killed an equal number of Japanese that they killed of Americans at Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, etc, then we should have ended the war without respect to terrain held, accountability of the warring party, etc., right? Justice and establishment of a lasting peace is simply matter of balancing the blood. Do I understand you correctly?

It doesnt for them. America and by extension Israel are free to do and kill whatever they want in violation of international law and it can never be called a provocation or act of aggression. That's just the "rules based international order."

If I understand your point, we would have been justified to have nuked and bombed every Japanese city to rubble and exterminated or displaced the population to make sure we never have to fight the Japanese again. And then resettled the island with Americans.

No, you don't understand me correctly. I'm talking about the indiscriminate mass killing of civilian men, women and children in Gaza, totalling over 30,000. I'm talking about war crimes, not just retaliation for the terrorist murders of 1,200 Israelis. Maybe I should have used some kind of emoji to help you understand if you think my post was all about "balancing the blood." And if you don't think the Israelis have committed war crimes in Gaza, then we have nothing to discuss.

As a Caucasian, American born, and a bit older, 65, I find the millenia(s) old conflict between Jew and Arab to be the ultimate expression of religous themed cultures gone bad.

I will state for the record I have traditionally supported the Jewish state, Democracy, and a sane secular society.

Sadly Israel, much like the USA, is increasingly becoming non secular with religous adherents gaining more and more power and driving an inhuman domestic and foreign policy against its Arab neighbors.

As despicable as that is, it pales in comparison to the assinine cultural and religous beliefs of Islam.

The destructive power of religion and tribalism is on full display in the Middle East and it's reminiscent of the barbarity exercised in that region during the Crusades.

While morally I do not agree with Uftaipans
(real world reality post) I accept the basic premise "us or them".

I support Israel because it's a choice between bad and worse. USA strategic policy in the Middle East is built around Israel, for good reason.

Having posted that the entire repugnant situation has gone on my entire life and will probably do so for another 1000 years +.

Tribes gone bad, inspired by non existent supernatural beings that are fairy tales from the mists of time of hunter gatherer societies.

I applaud both Jew and Arab for demonstrating to the entire world just how
insane and stupid the expenditure of their citizens lives, capital and future is, for the perpetual continuation of cultural and religous idolatry and barbarity.

    There IS, no innocence here.

I don’t agree with your compete analysis, but my biggest disagreement is over your conclusion that religiosity caused the conflict. It is not religion — it is leaders that misinterpret, abuse and weaponize religion for ulterior purposes that have placed us in this mess, something in world history that is not unique to the Middle East.

And again, I feel compelled to point out that these are all our preferred leaders in the region, or at least the fruits of our strategy in the region. We helped the violent nationalists and religious fanatics kill/disempower all the secular liberals, progressives, socialists and commies ages ago. They dont exist anymore, or in the case of Israel, will never be in power again. The price of "victory" in the cold war I suppose. But at least Russia isnt a problem anymore, am I right? :)

Agree to disagree - religon is the "justification" for any behavior a culture wishes to indulge in. Of course it is "Humans" that use it (religon) to abuse and weaponize as they see fit. As soon as you or anyone else provides "Scientific peer reviewed PROOF" of these many strange beings called "Gods", depending on culture, actually existing ............... I will continue to find religon (any religon) as a sad fact of human thinking and behavior, that many (most) of our species cannot and will not accept the earthly reality we actually live in. Yes, I am an atheist, and damn proud of it.

You wouldn't answer the question posed by Taipan because it ruins your argument. War crimes LOL? Tell the terrorists to not "Pearl Harbor" Israel and this situation could've been avoided. So what happens if in your eye for an eye view "only" killed 1,200 Palestinians? The terrorists would come right back and kill more Israeli's. US would do the same thing if Mexico did something to the US. And it's not indiscriminate whatsoever. That statement alone tells me you are ignorant on the situation.

"Not indiscriminate whatsoever"? Well, I'm certainly not alone in my "ignorance on the situation." The POTUS, who supposedly speaks with some knowledge of "the situation," told Israel it had to stop with the "indiscriminate bombing." But then we know old Joe is demented, right? And everyone around him.

I won’t for a second try and change your faith or lack of faith — it’s not for me or anyone else. But to say there is no place for it discounts the fact that most of us need something to provide answers for questions not even asked. My beef is when religion is weaponized and exploited. In the end, we are probably closer aligned than we each think.

Wow, so the President said something that I disagree with? No way! So IF trump said similar you would believe him also? Come on man. IF Israel wanted to indiscriminately bomb Gaza, they would've leveled the place in an hour if they wanted to.

Oh, so "indiscriminate" is all or nothing, eh? I'm not going to call you ignorant like you called me, because I honestly don't know what you are. But whatever it is, I've had enough of it. Over and out.

Seems like Israel is busily working out how many different wars it can lose, at one time, while not igniting WWIII.
