Not moot at all. Your claim was that liberals are trying to “kill all use of fossil fuels.” It appears you are backtracking on that statement now.

I see you did not read my post, that's okay. What do you think the "new" Paris Climate Treaty is all about? It's also the latest iteration of the Kyoto Treaty.

Get confirmation of any warranty info in writing directly from Tesla if you pursue this purchase.

I hear you. I hear that it technically voids the warranty but Tesla is backing it for the power train and herz is warranting the cars for 12k miles or months. I know nothing is guaranteed unless it’s in writing.

We have a system that has worked for my whole life. They are planning to abandon that system for one that is not at the present time feasible and no one knows for certain will ever be. You don't know why a conservative would have a problem with that? One of the many definitions of conservative is resistant to change.

I have a friend who is African American and liberal. As we were driving we saw a Tesla and I jokingly said I was thinking about buying one. She informed me she wouldn't even ride it in it. "Someone else controls the computer that controls the car."
Many conservatives agree with her mistrust of big government/business.

By the way, I am not advocating against EVs. drive a Prius. I can't afford a Tesla and the little Chevy wouldn't work for my daily driving needs.

I bought the little chevy. It's awesome, costs me under $7 for 300 miles range, and I can get free electricity a lot of the time. Estimating I save up to $800/year in fuel cost. Maybe more if we keep mileage down on the other car.

Cost me about 28k, under 21k out the door counting the tax rebate. Not bad for a warrantied brand new vehicle.

Has as much space as my old VW Golf did. Plenty. Definitely as much as a Prius. Thing is fast as s*** too. I drive slow, but if I ever need to be, I'm faster than almost anything around me.

    Couldn't recommend it any more.

RE the Prius, I know several people that swear by that car. I've been trying to convince my brother, who was a street rod builder, to joint venture a project to convert an older Prius into a 2-seater pickup via some creative body work.

Another couple of thoughts. You say "gently used", but that will most likely NOT be the case for the HVTB's. Almost all of those rental cars charging will have been done on superchargers. Tesla claims there is little degradation in the battery from supercharging it, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence out there, particularly from rideshare drivers, that continuous supercharging has led to early battery failure. As a general rule, slow charging is healthier for batteries. People who rented those cars are also more likely to charge up to as close to 100% charge as they can get to get maximum range. That is bad for the HVTB. You want to avoid completely discharging or charging it. One of my current hybrids is a Ford Escape. Unless the battery is going through a battery cell rebalance event, the car's computer will not allow the battery to discharge below 30% or charge above 70% (I might be off 5% on those numbers) to prolong the life of the battery pack.

I'm sure Hertz' cars will be clean and well cared for, but I think their batteries will be anything but "gently used". Pricing should reflect that. Also, familiarize yourself with how to get into the service mode so you can see what issues have been detected by the car's computer system.

The new Prius is a beautiful car, you wouldn't want to chop it up. I had an '08 Prius. Once you got past the funky appearance, it was a fun car...kind of like driving a video game.

You're welcome for that "FREE" electricity to charge your car!

Why would I thank you? Do you pay the electricity bill at my wife's office parking lot where she gets up to 4 hours/day when she goes in? You paying the bill at the food store or retail outlets near me that let you charge when you shop?

    Didn't think so.

No I don't pay their electricity bill but I do pay taxes for the tax credits being received by these businesses.

And you breath nicer air, and so will your kids and grandkids. Aren't you lucky!!

Just think - if that guy who's party you support had succeeded in his election conspiracy, your taxes would just be going for people like him to get a tax break, and for his polluting golf course run-off to poison your kids' water. Boo!

No jack a$$, I am by no means the upper 1% but my taxes have steadily climbed in the past 3-4 years. It's all clean air now, until the bellowing tower of CO2 blows here from all the support, we are giving China to produce the batteries for your cute little EV

EVs produce considerably less CO2 than gas powered vehicles even assuming the dirtiest battery production and energy production possible.

Are electric vehicles definitely better for the climate than gas-powered cars?

Congratulations on steadily making more money over the past 3-4 years. Or did you have kids age up and move out?

No real increase in income and no kids age out. Just more of my earned income going to the government in way of taxes. Please don't act like you are not aware of that. Anything from reduced allowable deductions to increased levels of mandatory fica taxes.

Exactly. Even if they're not tree huggers, we're all air breathers.

Hmm, I haven't noticed that in my taxes, maybe I'm doing them wrong.

Went and looked up the rates, both income and FICA rates appear unchanged since 2020. Are your state taxes going up?
