Kentucky @ Florida 12:30 PM

OH MY!

So that’s not exactly what happens but I think everyone gets the message here –

Kentucky is good at basketball.

And the next message?

Florida is better at basketball, having posted a 6-2 mark against the Wild-ones since 2005 with 3 SEC Championships and 2 NCAA National Championships within that span.

Clearly they have something better going for them these days and that something just happens to be football. I miss the glory days of a Gator football season around this time -- when the team could ultimately coast through the games against Kentucky, Georgia, Vanderbilt and South Carolina -- before the showdown against that SOW (FSU). Now it seems the talent level is exploding throughout football and more and more increasingly better athletes are finding homes outside the Michigans, USCs, and FSUs of the world. Therefore, a lot of once bad teams are suddenly, well, not so bad. But not everything is getting better as time goes on….

….case-in-point: the BCS.
Ugh. I’m one of those people who eat, sleep, drink, breathe and thus live for college football. After January I become a shell of the person I once was. No stats, no headlines, no anticipation, only sadness at the departure of the game. Luckily, this ends about a week into February. I become enamored with recruiting, spring practice, new recruits getting there during the summer, 2-a-days and finally we’re back to September. Then comes the next lull point of college football – the BCS rankings. I’ve been called everything from computer to genius to some other self-appealing word concerning my computing knowledge. I can tell you, without any resemblance of doubt that the BCS computers are working fine. It’s the dim-witted, uneducated mental midgets that supply the algorithm that need a reformatting.

Computer rankings:

1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma State
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
6. Georgia
7. Penn State
8. Utah
9. Boise State
10. USC
11. Texas Tech
12. Florida

Why not just use one Dell Inspiron notebook for the 6 computer rankings? I promise you that even the basest system can handle a few multiplications of decimal numbers. The reason is because once the individual computers finish ranking the systems off so-and-so’s algorithm, said so-and-so goes back in with a few backspaces and enters and modifies his favorite lineup of teams.

With that being said, there’s simply no reason why USC should be ranked 5 spots lower than Ohio State. USC BEAT OHIO STATE. Excuse me. They trounced them. The better team of the two is obviously the team, given they’ve played, that won. I guess it comes down to the teams you’ve lost to and how good they are. But wait a minute! Penn State hasn’t loss to anyone and they’re behind Georgia AND Ohio State. SO maybe it’s strength of schedule so far. But Oklahoma State really hasn’t beaten anyone other than Missouri, who suddenly look like, well, Missouri and can we really believe Utah or Boise State plays a harder schedule than Texas Tech? The BCS computer rankings, aside from the Harris and USA Today polls are the most biased form of hypocrisy and stupidity that I have ever seen. Why does it determine the ultimate conclusion of the one thing I truly love?

Rant finished. Sorry. Maybe you love college football as much as I do, maybe you don’t. If you do then you feel my grief and if you don’t then I’m pretty sure you have some reservations about this system. Do I have an answer for the system? I sure do not fans. However, if I was being paid to organize the NCAA FBS, I would sure as hell have come up with one by now. In fact, I think I could come up with a better system by the time it takes me to finish this sentence. Solution: Take an average of the USA, Harris and AP Poll and TA-DA, you have a BETTER system. Now pay me money for my extensive research.

If all Kentucky fans looked like this, we very could end up losing the game due to excrutiating hotness. With that being said, unfortunately, they don’t. She’s on MY list though.

The Gab: Florida 38, Kentucky 10.

Make it 22 Gators!

Question of the week:
Do any fans have a second favorite team? Something along the lines of, yeah, you love the Florida Gators but is there another team you find yourself rooting for? Please list them! I must say that my closest next favorite team is Oklahoma State. I think they have the best away jerseys of any team. I love the all white look.

I would have to say (other team I root for) the Longhorns, as I sit here surrounded by VY and R. Williams jerseys, next to the room holding the Horn crystal balls and Earl Campbell Heisman trophies. I have to hide my blackberry surfing Gator country in the middle of all this. I'm here to see the horns practice (more scouting?). My brother is here from out of town and sister invited us. More later? Going to meet Colt now.

Well didn't get to meet Colt (which looks as homely in person as on TV, and pics), but did see him getting taped in the treatment room before the practice. Did get to meet an RB, and a couple of DLs. Met one of the coaches, and the trainers. Gibby, I'm sorry you are rooting for the cowboys this weekend. I saw the Horns practice multiple trick plays... It was interesting to watch them practice (light one without pads). They were mostly running through plays. A lot of special team plays. They looked loose, ready, and business like. All the players I got introduced to (one of them suspended for this Sat- brought a girl to his room...) were very nice, well mannered, and friendly. I took some pics (before practice), and may post them at the Den later.

Haha, I like their jersey but I'll be rooting for the Cowboys for more reasons than one. Need as many 1-loss teams as possible. Go Gators!

Nice entry. My second team will always be a JoPa-coached Penn State until he (or bowden) retires. Hell, then Galen Hall takes over - so, they'll still be #2!
