Blogs and Journals

The end of one year and the start of another is an appropriate time to start a new venture. For some years now I've been keeping a journal to reflect my thoughts and musings back to myself. It's a useful tool that frequently helps me sort out my conflicts and confusions about mostly ordinary things. A good many deeply personal and angst ridden out-pourings also fill its virtual pages as it is not a physical book that could be lost or read by someone who has no business looking between its lines. For my convenience and peace of mind it is digitized in the silence of the 'Net held safely under password rather than lock and key.

I tend to misplace things. It's a bad habit I've had for years. Last year I misplaced my address book and had to contact friends and family to try and reconstruct its contents. I was fairly successful but found there were two addresses and phone numbers I could not obtain as no one I knew also knew either of these individuals and their phone numbers are unlisted. So knowing it was entirely possible I might lose a journal I made the decision to record my entries into an e-mail account set up for that purpose.

Our entire lives are overshadowed by the 'Net and most of us probably spend more time on it than we should. I discovered blogs several years ago, found several of interest and read them periodically. Blogging is an intriguing phenomena. Some bloggers start out with a zeal, blogging regularly and passionately on their pet topics or subjects of choice. But relentless blogging has its cost as many times these bloggers find they begin to beat a dead horse as they have said all they can say on a given topic. The intervals between entries increase, the blogs become less engaging or finally the blogger burns out and gives up trying to keep them current.

I envision this blog as a container for my thoughts. Clear, transparent, the contents lucid in the appropriate light with no tangible purpose other than a curiosity to see if I have anything worth saying to anybody interested enough to respond to my self-reflections. Some of what will appear will be new to you. Other entries will be recycled from posts made in the Pub or Too Hot. All of it is in my journal, having been there before or after being posted on one or the other of my two favorite GC forums. I have no specific agenda so most of what I write will be observations and reflections drawn from the more quotidian aspects of life.
