Embracing the past

Posted 10-11-2010 at 11:19 AM by bsaunders
This is my first blog so take it for what it's worth and BBQ me if you must. I just had to get this off my chest,
Regarding all of the negativity regarding the 80's teams, players, and coaches, I don't want us to lose sight of the true and fantastic history of Gator athletics. Emmitt, Kerwin, John L Williams, Neal Anderson, Lorenzo Hampton, James Jones, Wayne Peace, Chris Collinsworth, The Great Wall, Wilbur Marshall, Ricky Nattiel and the list goes on and on.
My first year as a Gator was 1979 (0-10-1) and there were actually highlights as well as great memories even from this disaster. We grew through the following decade and stuck together for the most part "in all kinds of weather". If we only accept post 1990 Gator Football, I think we are truly missing out on what makes being Gator Nation so rewarding.

Please know that I am not condoning poor play, coaching, decisions etc that may have occurred but just want us to embrace the history of this great university. I believe that we have become a little too demanding in our quest for perfection. Let's all ban together and enjoy the present, anticipate the future, and also embrace the past for all that it has meant to many Great Gators involved.

I rest my case and look forward to kickin some Bulldog butts this week! See ya at the Swamp. (No cowbells or booing permitted)
