WoW! Woke up at 4.30 fed the cat & stumbled back to bed............. 2 am is too late from me but didn't want to miss a thing involved with our triumph. What a game, what a win, what a great bunch of kids............

about 2/3 of my 9 year olds saw the last play of the game..... and it was crazy, they were so motivated they worked all day and never whined at all. Guess they saved that to take home with them tonight......

A group of 4 boys came in singing "We are the Boys of Old......" and right on tune with huge jackolantern smiles....

Friday was a day of quiet reflection here in Irvine, nominally signed it to work, 2 hours later than usual and had a hard time getting with it. I'll be making up for that lost time by working this morning when the state system comes up at 8.

2 things from la to report
it has been in the high 70's to low 80's all week long and again today.
i'm not enjoying it for i broke my humerus bone clear thru at the ball. the ball is cracked vert and hoz causing the docs to wait 2 weeks before deciding whether to replace the ball.
also broke the right ring finger and again waiting 2 weeks to see if it needs a pin.
i'm typing with one finger instead of my usual 2

I had a call last night from an old KY friend who sent me an email before the NC game saying to watch out for those Sooner's.

Last night he he said, what year for the Gators, and he is not even a fan of the Gators.

He is an old time Ky grad from the Rupp days.

It was nice to hear from him again. He is jealous right now of our program.

I can't blame him! LOL

I've shoveled the drive (which is Waaay too long) twice now because now,,,the crap is falling from the trees. However, it is now just passing the 32 mark, after 3 days and I suspect the ice on my road will begin to disappear soon. I hope! Now I can look forward to washing the vehicles and undercarriages due to the salts. Yep, feel REALLY sorry for you folks. Thanks for lettin me vent. I will move back to Fla in the next 5 years. no doubt about it!

in LA we had about 10 days of absolutely beautiful balmy weather up to 85 degrees.
this rarely happens as we are not in the tropical zone.
we are now experiencing about 6 days of rain temps 50 to 65.
all this crazy weather is strictly due to the jet steam.
the further north the worse the cold, snow, and ice and therefore the warmer in California.
the further south the jet stream passes that's when we get a very cold winter and el nino while the north gets milder winters.

Yeah! They snuck in a 5 day work week........... seemed like a month of Sudays. As the economy contiues to tank, molre Floridians are layed off, have their hours cut or otherwise have less income our work determining eligibility for Medicaid & Food Stamps increases. January is going to be our busiest month ever.

In tough times like these, every one feels the crunch and the children of folks on the margins of the economy are often hardest hit.

I used to shop several in that area, on 441, usually while making th trek from Gville to Renningers and on to Sorrento. What is the name of the place you re-located? I used to be able to find a good assortment of staghorns down that way & would love to get back..............

I guess one man's useless junk is another's treasure, I have several nice antique clocks and old country oak pieces from Renningers............ and two great old radios from Mt Dora.

hello folks. just got cable/internet service back on. electric sporadically goes out. i've been off since monday afternoon.
the hospital i work at, 35 miles north, is running on generator power, and running low on generator fuel...they are shipping patients out to hospitals with power. no one in the city has any power up there, i couldn't reach a supervisor, or even a coworker til this morning. their cell service was out too. ours was for awhile as well. its a 'disaster area' up there...and cold....was supposed to be sunny and 44 today and melt all this ice...and snow...but its 26 out there, and never did get any sunshine or get above freezing. the ice didn't melt at all....

Just handed Grandkids back their parents, wife & I took them overnight so the kids could celebrate their 10th anniversary with a night on the town in St Augustine. Everybidy happy all around, we got the kids (4 yrs & 1), the parents got away without the kids and the kids got a night off from parents- the rules are different when you are with Oma & Grandpa

The State Fair opens today.

What the heck is Gasparilla?
A Tampa original that started in 1904, Gasparilla was first held as a May Day celebration, then in conjunction with the Florida State Fair. Now it has its own identity -- and many facets. Gasparilla includes not only a mock invasion and parade but also a Pirate Fest in downtown Tampa with rides, food, live entertainment and Arts and Crafts Show. Gasparilla-related events continue through March, including a Gasparilla Distance Classic road race for adults and kids, the Gasparilla Children's parade, Fiesta Day and the Sant 'Yago Knight Parade, an illuminated night parade voted one of the Southeast's best.
Why do they throw beads?
The idea was taken from, of course, Mardi Gras. Back in 1904, when a group of Tampa businessmen were looking for a theme for a social gathering, one member, who was from New Orleans, suggested doing something like Mardi Gras. And so began Tampa's fascination with bead throwing. They now throw beads at the Sant' Yago Knight Parade, Guavaween and the St. Patrick's Day parade through Ybor City.

One of my favorite meals, Columbia Spanish Bean soup, their 1906 salad & black bean cakes, with fresh cuban bread on the side.
Didn't make the salad yesterday - maybe today. Have enough soup for a couple of days. Today is looking like a pasta with a florentine sauce of some sort, baked brie appetizer and salad.
