It is understandable for one to feel confused when catching a glimpse at the red elephant mascot at the University of Alabama. With a nickname like the "Crimson Tide," one can't help but conjure up images of a more aquatic, perhaps crustaceous creature as opposed to a 5-ton circus animal to represent the school's athletic spirit.


Much mystery surrounds the origin of the Tide's red elephant. So why does a red elephant prance up and down the Tide sidelines, revving up the Tuscaloosa faithful on game day? Well, no one can really say for sure. School historians verify that the red elephants have been associated with 'Bama football since 1930, however, theories on the tradition's origin have varied over the years.

One account of the mascot's derivation began in 1930, when Rosenberger's Birmingham Trunk Company, whose trademark is a red elephant standing on a trunk to signify the luggage's durability, presented red elephant good luck charms to members of Rose Bowl-bound Alabama.

When the team, composed of predominantly large men, emerged from the train in Pasadena with red elephant trinkets suspending from their luggage, reporters were awed by the players' mass and quickly seized upon the insignias on their baggage. Thus, the connection was born.

Going on 35 years of marriage~ you learn how to make it work. WE BOTH love college football and with that said, rewatch old games, analyze games and have favorites ~ but in the end it is the team that has the players ready/coaches ready that wins. The SEC is so full of talent, it can go either way on any given Saturday for the most.
In the big scheme of life it provides us excitement and fun, we have good natured ribbing~ but it is NOT as important as our children, our health , our friend's and our family~ guess we are getting "MELLOW" and "OLD".
We have lots of mixed marriages within the family, our favorite cousins are Auburn / Bama mix, my sister's sons are all DAWGS and all are due to where they could get the best deal for their education~ we must be unusual for we all PULL FOR EACH other's teams until the match ups occur. Then the winner gets to gloat for a year, then we do it all over again. Wouldn't trade a football Saturday to be anywhere else!!! We have a GRAND TIME.

As for slipping him a sleeping pill~ oh dear Mama, the hell I'd pay when he woke up. Flip doesn't MISS any football game of that caliber.

I only saw the jerseys on TV and in photos online, but it seemed like the orange is a slightly different color than the orange of our helmets, which bothered me (or maybe it was just our playing in them)... anyone notice?

wow, I go out to my car and BAM I have a parking ticket. The jagoff next to me took up 1 1/2 spaces and my left tires were on the blue line for handicap. The best thing is we are private property, and the ticket was written at 5:30 am. What cop is rolling through hotel parking lots at 530 am to write a $100 ticket?? I will take this to court and fight it. I'm not going to pay $100 because my tires were touch a blue line and no one was using the spot....
