Big NCAA Gymnastics regionals match in the o'dome that day at 6:00 pm. stay and watch that one!

also, softball hosts mississippi state at 3 pm - check out the action after the O&B Debut. UAA should run shuttles to that event.

must be the 'miss state weekend' or something as baseball travels to starkville to play the 'dogs.

also, on sunday, if you're coming into town and staying the overnight - or live in town - mens and women's tennis take on miss state. action starts at 10 am. more softball at noon.

and saturday there's a lacrosse match at noon. if the UAA was smart they'd move that start time to, like, 10 am : what better way to 'tailgate' than watching gator lacrosse! then run shuttles to BHG for the O&B game.

You can go to gymnastics, softball, tennis.... Or watch the gators in the Final Four that day. I know what I will choose!!

good point!
30k-55k will attend the O&B game. if the gators are in the final four, i'm hoping half of those #'s are in atlanta!
then for those staying in g'ville, just need 8k for the gymnastics (would be competing w/ the gator's game if we're the later game)
and 1.5k easily can attend the softball w/out issue. so if you're not in atlanta, there's alot of other gator sports to support & follow for that weekend!

This doesn't sound good for the game:

http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20130326/ARTICLES/130329655?tc=cr

Florida has been so depleted by them that it now appears unlikely the Gators will be able to play a traditional game for the Orange & Blue Debut on April 6. The spring game could turn out to be more like another practice.

I agree about the moving targets, it would be nice to see more YACs. But not with the deep ball.

He threw a number of long passes that were just barely out of the receiver's reach. And I seem to remember a couple that were dropped or at least that should have been caught. Going from memory, which is always risky with my memory, but I don't think he's that far away from being good with the long passes.

Do Florida Gator athletes get injured more than athletes in other programs, or are just more open about it? I am craving Gator football so bad now that I will watch a glorified scrimmage, but I am curious if we have worse luck than other teams (see Ronald Powell's injury in last year's O&B Debut) or if this is somewhat normal.

To tell the truth, I don't know. Maybe someone else does.

Dreamliner
03-27-2013, 09:55 PM
While they are still in a minority, there are strength coaches who argue that weight-lifting, which is meant to protect athletes from injury, actually predisposes athletes to injury.

Of course this doesn't explain why one program would be especially injury prone.

I read somewhere recently that the 45 degree leg press causes the most injuries of gym machines and at the same time causes very little, if any, benefit.

I read somewhere recently that the 45 degree leg press causes the most injuries of gym machines and at the same time causes very little, if any, benefit.

I can't see that. There's definitely hypertrophy benefit to the leg press. If it causes more injuries it's probably because it's one of those exercises that guys just love to throw plates on. I've seen tons of guys do 1/8th reps on those with 1200 lbs.

As for the game, I'll be going but not expecting anything beyond a practice. I don't think we'll be able to glean anything from the O&B game beyond "oh that guy got bigger" or "looks like that player lost some weight."

Dreamliner
04-01-2013, 10:27 AM
They always 'look bigger' in the Spring. if they really were bigger each year the average player on the roster would go 300.

I won't be making it this year.

Gotta work cause it looks to be raining several days this week and I'll have to make up some of that work on Saturday. Plus, I had to spend for new home PC because the lightning fried my old one last week.

I was even going to pursue getting a group together to fly a plane with a score banner over FSU's spring game, but I can't afford that one now either. Btw, if anyone is interested in organizing that, I think I have someone who can do it. Just PM me and let me know.

It is remotely possible that Doak Campbell lies within restricted airspace due to its proximity and orientation to the airport. I would have to check the flight maps. It is also very easy to accidentally cross into Eglin Air Force Base's restricted airspace from Tallahassee. At first glance, Ben Hill Griffin looks as if it would be easier to avoid restricted airspace from the airport.

Then again, it is possible that someone is lying. I just basing this on what I know of flight paths and R-coded airspace.

I read where this will be more like a practice due to the injuries to the O-line. Coach said it wouldn't be fair to ask 6 linemen to have all those snaps. There will be some 11 on 11 drills.

9:00 a.m. – Gator Locker Room Yard Sale (outside Gate 9)

10:00 a.m. – Verizon Fan Fest in North End Zone Lawn

10:30 a.m. – Gator Walk

11:30 a.m. – Warm-ups begin on the field

Gators coach Will Muschamp likes his team’s offensive line heading into his third season, he just would like for more of them to be healthy.

Muschamp announced Tuesday that due to a lack of healthy offensive linemen, he is altering the format of Saturday’s Orange & Blue Debut spring game. Instead of a full scrimmage, the game will be an open practice that will include situational scrimmage snaps between individual and team position drills the Gators perform regularly at practice.

I think it's only been televised once on Saturday and that was the time it was on ESPN.

For those that may be planning to go to the Orange and Blue "Debut" this weekend, or for anyone interested, I received an email from Gator Boosters today about several changes Coach Muschamp is making in the Format of the event this year. There are players with injuries. Also it is now FREE for everyone.

Please read this link for the info I received from Gator Boosters:

Also, please read the OP of this thread for changes and additions we made to it.

I do remember that back in 2000. The Gators did well that year. Good call. Then again I also remember in 1993 when Spurrier went crazy because the receivers were dropping all the passes from Dean and Wuerffel. Another 10-win season. I hate that we lost to FSU both years, and to Miami in 2000.

We hear this every year but he's been the best spring QB the last two seasons, I'm not saying make him the starter but why can't he get some reps just to see if maybe we have another Matthews situation- where a guy who was overlooked in recruiting and isn't necessarily supremely talented is better on the field than the HS all-americans.

socraticsilence has lost it he wants Murphy in the game now

I get that he's a weak armed undersized QB but I don't know he could be Johnny Football good- he might have instincts, I know its irrational but Jeff's just so frustrating to watch- he's the most talented QB we've ever had in terms of raw physical talent (Cam is the only guy who might beat him out) but he just doesn't seem to have that intangible quality that made guys like Tim and Danny so special- be it instincts in the pocket (he's no where near as good at change of direction as Tim was but he's quick enough)or touch and anticipation (if you gave Jeff 10 throws he couldn't drop a fade in like Danny did with ease), that makes a short weak not particularly fast QB like Manziel an unstoppable weapon at times, I wish it weren't true but at this point he's still more of an athlete than a QB.

I don't think Murphy can last a whole SEC season but who knows he might be able too, what I do feel is that barring a light going on this summer Jeff's going to be pretty much the same guy he was last year only his best target is gone and teams no longer believe that we'll even attempt the deep ball so windows are going to be tighter.

this is true to an extent but I'm not sure why people think our talent level is higher at QB than say WR, I've seen nothing to make me think that Jeff is better at playing QB than Reed was at TE or Hammond and Dunbar were at WR. I don't know what everyone was expecting today. It would have been hard to deliver an entertaining game for the fans. Harder still to make it look like the team has improved. My thoughts on what little we could see today. Our defense backs looked really good, I didnt see a receiver open all day. I liked Morrison and McMillian had a couple of nice plays. Taylor had a few nice runs but then dropped an easy pass during the 1 minute drill. Ajabe had a nice run early. Clay Burton had a nice catch. The kickers both made every kick they showed and I thought Hardin looked to be more accurate and get the ball off higher and further, then at the end of the practice Phillips made his and Hardin clanked his kick off the upright. Hard to gather much from what was actually shown, the QB's did not do much except for the shorter passes but they didnt really have anyone open. Defense looked pretty good. Orr seemed to be pretty active. As Driskel said there is definately alot of work that needs to be done in the summer. The QB's and receivers need to throw every day.

I kind of disagree. Gillislee was not the ideal back for urban, then when muschamp came in he tried to stick to a similar offensive plan to make the adjustment level as easy as possible. He knew Demps and Rainey were great playmakers, he tried to utilize them as much as possible to make the change easy. If Gillislee would of been allowed to run for a year or two before, I think I would of been different. Do you think Muschamp would start Gillislee next year over Rainey and Demps if they all had another year and Gillislee had a year like this? Absolutely.... No question....

Why is that? He is a kickoff returner... He has speed and great cuts, and jukes... He could last as long as he wanted... He only won't for his own stupidity...

Rainey all that in college too and while it all looked good, he only balled against bad competition. It showed in the NFL, 102 yards.rushing total for the season and 14 catches for a whopping 60 yards.

Two staffs picked those two over him. Rainey is an idiot for fighting with his girlfriend. Demps is an idiot for saying he wants to play both sports so Gily should be in the league longer but 5 years is a long time. No way two staff didnt see that a player was TWICE as good as those other two and didnt play him

I don't think it is that far fetched that both staffs made an error on Gilly. In fact.I thought I read a quote this past season where Muschamp says he should have played Gilly more the year before. You are right 5 years is a long time but I believe RG is good enough to last that long. Barring injury of course

As I said... As a kickoff/punt returner he could last as long as he wanted... As a RB no... But I have seen games this past year where when he found a hole, in a depleted O Line, he would burst for 12-15 yards... Pittsburgh's o line was horrible this past year.

Agree to disagree. Any time I hear Rainey and punt return I think of the worst display by a punt returner ever in last years Auburn game. You are a fan of his and that's cool. I liked Rainey too, but he was never that good in my eyes

Lol I'm not a huge Rainey fan? I was more a Gillislee fan, from when they used to put him in the 4th quarter and they'd let him run for 60 yards. I just believe if Rainey puts effort into it, he can excel the talent is there... Mentality is not obviously... Agree to disagree.... I agree lol

well Muschamp was asked bout how the team acted during the Louisville game. He said nothing is going to change. He says when you are beating LSU nobody has a problem with it but when you lose to Louisville they are a "bunch of thugs".

Wow...so it's ok to be classless as long as you're winning? SMH

I wasn't concerned about thuggery. I was put off by idiocy. We were getting waxed and still celebrating.

I take it you are trying to make the argument that we didn't have the talent that we had in the Tebow years. I agree with that but not on Gilly. He is twice the tailback that Rainey or Demps were

I think you're severely underrating Demps and Rainey- one was a top 25 5 star back who contributed all over the field, the other had Olympic Speed, Mike was better in our current scheme but he would not have done what Jeff and Chris did along side Tim.

Come on man, his recruiting stars? That means nothing once college starts

Demps and Rainey were a much better fit than Gilly in Meyer's offense I don't think you can fault the coaches there, and given our dearth of weapons going with Demps and Rainey in 2011 is also understandable.

This as well, give Rainey a USC 05 or Bama 12 line and he looks a lot like Reggie Bush- not a workhorse but an awesome talent.

The attendance was down but no doubt it was larger than what the Hurricanes get at a "home game" in the Dolphins stadium in Miami Gardens.

I'd have attended if I lived in Gainesville, its hard to justify driving hours to attend a practice.

I'll take MG over Demps and Rainey in any offense. MG can run with speed, power, run inside and outside. Plus he is a better blocker. Rainey and Demps cannot run well inside against a non garbage defense. They are both complementary situational role players. MG is a feature back.

MG should have been starting from day one.

We had a feature back for Mike's first 2 seasons-- Tebow, having true homerun hitters was more valuable- Mike's not a homerun threat in SEC play (to put it another way Jeff Demps never had a season with run shorter than 60 yards, Mike never ran it for more than 60 in his entire career). In a space based approach Demps and Rainey were more dangerous and more consistent players on everything but runs up the gut- which due to the aforementioned best inside runner in college history we had covered.

2009 was the best year Florida's ever had for running the ball-- its not like a feature back was a must have.

who is #25?

Gideon Ajagbe. Converted fron LB to FB to add more depth at the position.

In the Lakeland Ledger this morning "20,000 plus" is what was printed. Not an exact number.

I agree. I think 15,000 is probably fair. 18,000 at absolute best

Final Spring Practice Leaves Passing Doubts

>> Many of the 20,000 plus fans who showed up Saturday at The Swamp for Florida's final Spring Practice probably left 2 hours later still wondering (and probably worrying) about the downfield passing game.

It simply wasn't there.

But that doesn't mean it won't be there in the Fall. That's the message that coach Will Muschamp and QB Jeff Driskel delivered after the practice. <<

"I think it will a lot better in the Fall. We have more guys that can stretch the field. We have good team speed at the receiver position. Our line is blocking a lot better. And the quarterbacks are doing a better job knowing when he have the opportunity to launch the ball."

"It's kind of everything working together and running the ball well to set up those plays."

- Gator QB Jeff Driskel.

>> Muschamp did not seemed concerned what happened at Saturday's practice. <<
And he explains why in the article.
