Baby Cured of AIDS for the First Time, Researchers Say

A Mississippi baby born with the AIDS virus appears to have been cured after being treated with an aggressive regimen of drugs just after her birth 2½ years ago, an unusual case that could trigger changes in care for hundreds of thousands of babies born globally each year with HIV.

The findings, reported Sunday by researchers, mark only the second documented case of a patient being cured of infection with the human immune-deficiency virus. The first, an adult man known as the Berlin patient, was cured as a result of a 2007 bone-marrow transplant.

Curing the HIV virus is not curing AIDS, but this is still a wonderful breakthrough if true.

Most of the children at my daughter's home for orphans with AIDS contracted the virus at birth from infected parents.

I have to believe that is more the genetic makeup of the patient rather than a cure. And I do not doubt that there are people out there who have been infected by the HIV virus but it does not affect them. Just another piece of the puzzle to the real cure.

HIV is believed to be the virus that causes AIDS. Having HIV is not the same thing as having AIDS. The retroviral drugs available today control the virus very well.

I believe that the baby in the news is not the the Magic category (containment) but actual elimination of the virus from the body, or at least the antibodies that are formed (and used to determine an HIV positive test) are non-existent.

It was some years ago, nowadays people are living 20-30 years with it because of drugs. See if you watch South Park, you will see that magic Johnson got cured because he ground up money, and injected it into his bloodstream. In other words $$$$$ talks, there are literally cures for everything, but why put those out there when you can make billions or more off of the treatments? In Europe they have been using Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy, AKA bio-oxidative therapy for over 50 years, and it's still unknown to North Americans. It's known to cure a long list of diseases including candida, cancers, skin diseases, heart disease, and HIV. I've also read some have referred Magic Johnson to doing Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy.

It was a death sentence.

There's a big retroviral/antiviral treatment system that can basically keep AIDS at bay for a long time. It doesn't hurt to have the money to pay for this.

Well that's basically a long-confirmed theory, but it wasn't the case with this baby.

As a natural antimicrobrial, hydrogen peroxide can be helpful in some situations (as can low-PH vinegar, garlic, etc.)

That said, there's a high dosage of snakeoilery around hydrogen peroxide, and the notion that it cures HIV or heart disease doesn't have much merit.

But saying it "doesn't" cure HIV/AIDS does not hold much merit either. Europeans might say otherwise. Long story short, give it a shot what's the worse that can happen?

Lol I won't even argue, to each their own. I believe exploring more options is better. You risk lives, but that's life. People are dying anyways, if its inevitable why not give it a chance?

It's the people that are taking care of themselves and taking their medication. I remember when my parents neighbor's son contracted HIV and continued to live with reckless abandon and in no time had full blown Aids and became a statistic.

Research people tend to rush to the media with sensational headlines announcing a break through. I have a sinking feeling that when we get to the bottom of this case, there will be disappointment. There are still a lot of unanswered questions.

I certainly hope that a cure can be found for HIV. A very good friend, and he was young and had a family, in my Church died of this dreaded disease. Came as a result as he was trying to help what appeared to be a very ill man, not aware that he had the Aids virus.
