Trent Harris' eyes welled up with tears on Friday morning during an unofficial visit to the University of Florida.

The Winter Park defensive end got his dream college football scholarship offer and he was overwhelmed by emotion.

"I didn't cry, but I definitely teared up," Harris said of what transpired as Florida head coach Will Muschamp told him he had a scholarship offer to the school he has always loved. "It was like the whole world just stopped. I've thought about it since I was a kid and it's still hard to believe it’s true after all these years. Still feels like a dream."

When asked how often he had thought of himself wearing that Gator uniform and trotting onto the field at The Swamp, Harris said, "Every day."

That dream is a step closer to reality, and it wouldn't be all too surprising if Harris decided to pledge his intentions to join the Gators 2014 recruiting class in the next couple of days.

"I'll take a couple nights to think about it and talk it over with my parents, but then I think I’ll have my answer," he said. "I just feel blessed and I thank my parents and my coaches and God ... God is always first."

He said it was difficult to not commit on the spot, but he had the scenario already planned out in his head that he would not do so. He also said he had no pressure to do so from UF coaches.

"[Coach Muschamp] didn’t really throw the question out there, but he kind of hinted around," Harris said. "He told me I had no pressure and I didn’t need to rush and he wasn't going to rush me."

The 6-foot-3, 231-pound junior said it was his father who had gotten emotional this past Saturday during a visit for a Florida State junior day when the Seminoles offered him his second scholarship invitation. He had already received an offer from Boston College.

Harris talked a bit on Tuesday about the possibility that UF might be close to offering. He grew up an avid Gators fan and his room at home is decked from wall-to-wall in everything you could imagine representing his love of UF.

That's why it was somewhat ironic in that the Seminoles got in ahead of UF. The twisted pattern continued Tuesday, when his third scholarship offer came in from the Gators second-least favorite opponent, Georgia. Harris also has a Kentucky offer.

"Yeah, I was born a Gator fan," said Harris, yet he tried to downplay his hatred for FSU. "Yeah, well ... I mean, that's not exactly true, except when they're playing the Gators."

He does however, have a newfound respect for FSU after meeting the coaches during his trip to Tallahassee.

"Oh yeah, I love the coaching staff up there," Harris said of the Seminoles, and he also said he could easily see himself playing in Doak Campbell Stadium.

Of course, he also didn't say what uniform he was wearing while conjuring up the image.

Harris, who had 50 tackles and 11 sacks last season, has seen his stock skyrocket since he's started making the recruiting rounds.

The No. 14-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2014 Central Florida Super60 has tentative plans to visit Georgia and South Carolina this month, but if he makes a decision with the Gators, there will be no more recruiting trips.

"No sir, probably not," he said.

That's the million dollar question typically the staff likes to watch multiple practices or have a kid camp before accepting an offer. Everybody that is committed at this point has had/done one of the two.

That's the thing I love about this staff. Due diligence in regards to recruiting. Think coach said all but one of the 2013 signees attented camps over the summer.

Kind of doubt it. We will take a few Buck types, but there are at least two or three guys higher on our board. He probably has to have a break out senior year or do something spectacular at camp.

I guess I don't understand the point of a scholarship offer that isn't "committable" at the moment you offer it. Is it really an offer if you immediately say, "Oh, and this isn't good until we actually tell you it is, which may be awhile. "

Isn't an uncommitable scholarship offer to a player who isn't yet a take basically a vague promise that at some point in the future you might give them an opportunity to commit should certain things happen?

Who would you take over him? I know we all want Carter but how realistic is that? The rule of thumb in the SEC is you recruit 4 players to get 1. We need 2 or 3 bucks so we are talking 8-12 guys. If that is his true height and weight they might just need spring evaluation or might even be a take now

Its like giving a girl a key but not letting her move her stuff in yet. There are still things you need to learn about her before you go all in

Will somebody please get the word out to these kids to pay attention in class and make some grades ?

Not sayin' anything about this kid, and he may be a 4.0 GPA type.

But somebody has got to wake up - most of them - academically.

You have to cheer for a kid who really wants to be a Gator. It's also apparent that the opportunity to play big time football in his home state is a "dream come true" type of thing for his family.

I hope he has a great year and gets to be a Gator.

We're going to have a very deep DE/OLB/Buck board out of necessity this year. I would say we need 2 Bucks (one being a home run) and 2-3 true DEs (also one needs to be a home run). I expect to see quite a few names to come up (and be replaced) throughout the summer and fall.

Trent Harris was thinking about committing to the University of Florida football program this weekend.

The Winter Park defensive end received his dream offer from the Gators, the team he has loved since he was a little kid, on Friday. It seemed all he had to do was speak with his parents and the deal was done.

That's when Nick Saban stepped into the picture.

Alabama extended Harris his sixth scholarship offer Saturday and it changes everything for the 6-foot-2, 231-pound junior, whose other offers are from Florida State, Georgia, Boston College and Kentucky.

Harris actually spoke with Alabama defensive line coach Chris Rumph, who made the offer.

"It's a big shock," Harris said. "I just feel blessed and thankful. I give all the glory to God.

"I don't even know what else to say. It's just crazy."

He may not of been as close to committing to the Gators 2014 class as many thought, but he certainly further from that now.

"I was pretty close, but I decided that I was probably going to take some time to think about it and probably take a few more visits," said Harris, who is scheduled to trip to South Carolina on March 23.

"It is difficult because probably from my heart the place I want to be is Florida, but I have to start thinking about my future and what's best for me to get to where I want to go."

Most talented prospects want to go is the NFL, and Harris is starting to realize that dream might not be so far away from reality.

"I just got a keep working hard," Harris said.

Harris, the No. 14 prospect in the Sentinel's 2014 Central Florida Super60, had 50 tackles and 11 sacks last season, and his stock has skyrocketed in the last week, especially now.

When Harris sees UF put a couple of first rounders and a bunch of other first day selections in the draft, he'll realize that his dream school and business decision don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Yeah but UGA is putting out a 1st rounder at his position. I would have liked to have him on board right now but CWM wont lose this battle. Harris will visit other school realize they are pretty much all the same and then commit to Florida.

That was basically my point. Not that we are so much better than another school, but we are right there with the rest of them, and so going to his dream school would not be setting back his NFL prospects in any way.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/blogs/recruiting/os-ohio-state-offers-trent-harris-winter-park-20130513,0,2833514.post

Ohio State came in with Harris’ 17th offer on Monday and it threw a giant wrench into the plans he had laid out for next Thursday (May 23). He was going to announce his decision after the Wildcats’ spring game.

Not any more.

“Yeah, that changes everything. I’m going to try my best to get up there (Ohio State) for a visit,” said Harris (6-foot-2, 231 pounds), the second Central Florida player in the past week to be offered by the Buckeyes, joining Apopka quarterback Zack Darlington. “I know Urban Meyer is a good coach and a good man … and I like that.”

What makes the offer more interesting is that Harris is a die-hard Florida Gators' fan, and Meyer's past with Florida could make a big difference in the recruitment of Harris.

"It will play a huge role," Sinclair said.
