He's playing the worst ball since he's been a gator. He's a shell of himself and playing with no confidence. He can't make layups or wide open 3's. I hope he finds his confidence

yeah - I don't know what's up there but we have no shot at winning anything in March if KB continues this play. He was non-existent tonight in a game where he really needed to step up.

Maybe he needs to start driving to the basket because his 3 pt. game has been horrible.

True. But we have various forums covering different sports on this Gator sports website. Carry on.....

He needs to drive (get fouled and go to the line or make some layups) and take shorter/mid-range jump shots to try to get his shooting confidence back. We will only go as far as he takes us.

No worries, they just want to make sure they have enough space to talk about Mantae Teo's 40 time
Unfortunately he hasn't shown he can beat a defender off the dribble

something not right with Boynton, if he made 3 from corner toward end of the game, we would have been down only one, seems like doesnt want ball either.

He has definitely lost his shooting and this is a huge reason for loses. Young only has about a 3 inch vertical so that doesn't help either.

He's just saving himself for the Tournaments. He'll be fine!!!
Seriously though, KB has always seemed to me to be the guy that is hot when the team is hot, and cold when the team is cold. Not that he's the heart and soul of the team or anything, just that he is a reflection of the whole team. Does that make any sense... am I the only one who thinks this?

The guy could be injured, struggling with classes, lost his girlfriend, family member of friend ill.
We forget that these athletes are human. Basketball is a big part of their life but it surely isn't the only thing going in their world.
Lastly, I'm sure he isn't happy with his performances and he will work his butt off to make it right.

What was discouraging about last night was that it didn't seem like he was taking many Kenny shots. He was taking the right shots at the right time. I want him taking that three-pointer in the last minute every time it's available. It was a good shot. He was trying to drive.
He's just not making what he's taking, even when what he's taking is correct.

Agreed. I can't remember one bad shot from him yesterday and usually he takes 2-3 a game. He couldn't hit wide open ones he normally gets.

Kenny looks tentative, and need to run the floor more looking to shoot off the screens, or take it to the hoop strong. he isn't going to come out of his 3 pt. shooting slump without getting open looks, although it looks to me that he is doubled quickly as soon as the ball get to him a lot of the times. What happened to the jump post off the drive in the 12-18 shooting area that most guards pull up and drop in. I hope the offense starts going back to him before tourneyment time. We just didn't have the energy that we have played with in spurts this year, but overall for 6 man rotation we played a decent game in a rough place for the Gators recently. We see how we handled Arkansas a second go, in the O-Dome. Lets go Billy Ball. And with 6 we couldn't run the traps and press as we looked gassed to me.
sorry but i don't feel bad for him
he is a great gator, he has helped win plenty of games, but he is a senior and has had years to work out his issues, yet they are still there
4 years at UF to work on his release, yet it is ugly as ever...4 years to work on driving, yet he can't seem to have any iso abilities other than trying to shake and shoot a 3...his FT shooting has even taken a dive
we need to just accept who he is as a player (volume shooter, very good defender), and more importantly, he needs to accept it too
one being that he isn't a clutch shooter

The problem with Kenny is that he's a one-dimensional player on offense in the half-court, and he's not even that particularly great in that dimension. I don't have the exact percentage but I'd bet the percentage of his shots that are threes is really high. Last year and early on in the season it looked like he might have been developing a little floater in the lane, but nowadays he kind of just floats behind the three point line. I'm surprised that in four year's time he still struggles to beat his man off the dribble and hasn't developed any kind of a mid-range game.
With that said, Boynton is a streaky shooter that runs hot and cold. If he can put together a hot streak in the tournament, we can do some special things.

I would say that 10-39 from beyond the arc in the last 6 games is not very streaky at all?

He's still shooting on the way down. I don't know how he can make any that way. He's the 4th best guard on the team lately.

I am rooting for Boynton. Florida is a better basketball team when he is shooting well. It probably could've made a difference last night.

KB's mechanics are horrific right now. If he can't make the 3 he is a very limited player. He has absolutely NO left hand. He has got to come around offensively or we would be better served to replace him with MFII.

It has gotten to the point that when KB goes up for a 3 pt. shot I don't expect it to go in. With that being said we all know he is capable of shooting lights out (Yale game) and quite frankly our tournament fortunes will lie directly on how Kenny plays.
He is supposed to be the senior leader on this team and I for one believe he is going to have a big time tournament. Instead of bashing him lets support him. After all what other choice do we have.

He needs to stop shooting on the way down. Plus he tries to jump as high as he can on every shot, which is just a waste of energy.
I always say shoot right before you get to the peak of your jump. And don't jump like you do when you want to dunk.
On the other hand his ball handling has gotten a whole lot better.

No doubt Kenny is pressing right now, but I also have no doubt he'll get it together and the timing might be just right.

You know things are bad when people are bringing up the Yale game. You should have a ridiculous game vs non-scholarship Mathletes where the person opposite you has 1/10 the skill level.

Scottie had his hands full with McRae while playing 39 minutes and handling the ball most of the time.
Since Boynton wasn't contributing much on offense, I would have put him on McRae and even though he is smaller than Wilbekin, he is quicker

KB is a great Gator. He's given max effort for 4 years. He just isn't a super star. Unfortunately, he must have been so dominant when he was young that he never had to learn how to do certain things. He never finishes with his left. A lot of his passes are one handed (right handed) and he twists his body to make it look awkward. His shot form is about as well dissected as Tim Tebow's throwing motion. But the kid has played his heart out for UF, is tough as nails on defense and deserves our respect.

I disagree. I think he has gotten better each year until this year. And really, he hasn't taken a *huge* step back this year. All of this "Boynton Slumping" talk can (and will, IMO) be erased when he blows it up in the post-season.

Well,
1. I think Boynton was done a real disservice by being ranked in the top 10 in his class. It probably made him less likely to work on the things he needed to work on in college, handle, shot form, learning how to slash and finish without charging.
2. Boynton is a good but limited by his size defender. Is is a much less one dimensional SG than Humphrey, but Humphrey was so much better at that dimension, ie shooting. Boynton can drive and finish and I wish that he has worked on that particularly not charging on drives throughout his career.
3. Boynton early in his career was a terrible shooter because he shot such a high percentage of contested 3s. Last year, he shot much better in part because he took better shots. He is as others have said on this thread still not taking bad shots, so I have hope he will break out of it and finish strong.

Hopefully he will search for and find his rhythm in the PRACTICE GYM. 10-39 is hurting his team and shows no indication of his ability to "shoot" his way out of his mechanical problems.
Defense, drive, score or dish should be his goals.

I don't think anything is really wrong with Kenny's game beyond the issue with his shooting and his zeal for taking quick shots down the stretch.

Kenny had a really good game just last Saturday at home against Arkansas, a real complete game. The overreaction to his tough February here is a bit ridiculous.

The only place he has dropped off is his 3 point shooting percentage. Went from 40% to 33% I believe. However I have a sneaky suspicion that he will get hot in the tournament and bring that percentage up. It is also worth mentioning that his leadership, defense, passing, and overall play has not dipped in my opinion. Just his 3 point shooting.
