I just think that's way too early. that's gotta be very distracting for a kid that age

these kids are going to junior days, playing varsity and doing 7 vs 7 camps an offer is not going to change much.

At this point, it's just a ploy to say "hey, we offered you way back when nobody did".
If the guy turns out to suck, they would find a reason to yank it. No risk at all.

So this is the reason Bama has aids? To scout 8th graders?

Lets hope there isn't some Marcus Dupree challenges that go with that. At least it appears he has a father in the middle of his life, and that can be a really good thing.

That was pretty funny. That kid that he throws down like a toy looks like he is in elementary school compared to this kid.

When did we offer Leak?
Chris Leak's older brother had an offer from Wake Forest as an 8th grader which made waves at the time but then had a string of injury problems in high school. These things almost never work out. Too much can happen in four years and offers are nonbinding just as commitments are.

I could not ever imagine WM offering ANYONE that early. "Yea he is good but is he what WE are looking for" ....is something I could imagine him saying.

Kelvin Taylor was starting on his varsity team in the eighth grade and was performing quite well.

Being in the 8th grade and the size of that kid simply means he could wind up 6'4 and 280. If so Bama may still offer the scholly but for DE instead of RB. :joecool:

Or just tell him he'll play RB then pair him up with Henry and the rest of the D Line.

Bama offered 2013 signee Tim Williams as a Freshman and 2014 RB Leonard Fournette as a Freshman. lol I think they have an eye for this sort of thing.

I have coached a kid that has completely dominated our local league. Looks exactly like this kid in the video. If I can keep him out of trouble.....

His older brother was a dominating defensive player who was undersized at his position by at least 30 lbs. This kid is better than his brother at the same age and will be bigger by HS.

Verbal offer and verbal commitment is only as good as the paper it's written on.

This kid is the real deal, surprised it took Saban this long to offer.

I understand you think he is the real deal now but C'mon. So many things can happen in that amount of time. Its honestly kind of ridiculous to offer a kid a scholarship when he isn't even in high school.

I would say the same thing if UF offered, it is idiotic in my opinion.

Also, one year ago Muschamp offered a 15 year old 9th grader OL Luke Hiers.

I remember posting the article because at the time that will be the class of 2015.

Just remember kids always remember who gives them their 1st offer. You will see more of this in the future from all head coaches not just from Saban.

I don't have a problem with it as long the kid understands that offer is likely to be pulled if he fails to materialize as projected, gets in trouble with the law or struggles to qualify academically. The only meaning behind extending an offer this soon is for a coach to try and mark his territory like a dog peeing on a bush. It is more for public consumption than for the benefit of the kid.

They offered it as a..."I offered you way back because I believed in you" in case the kid actually pans out...They can always take it back...great potential... but who knows...there should be a rule about offering kids before their junior season...if not we should offer every 8th grader who has a remote chance of being a good player so just in case we can say we offered you first!!

I talked about Dylan shortly after San Antonio. This kid may be bigger than most running backs but he was one of our Eastbay All Americans and it wold not have made a difference who was on the other side of the ball this kid is legit. The linemen he played against in our 8th grade Eastbay game had 280 lb 8th grade linemen and he still shredded them!

Pretty much wherever he wants!! :)

He will be a DE come HS. Not really quite fast enough for RB or LB. Too long a stride, but is very coachable. He picked up what every one thought was an incomplete pass and ran it back 80 yards for a TD. He did exactly what I told him. Pick up every ball you see on the ground and run it to the end zone unless you hear a whistle.

Oh yeah, he was 8 years old at the time. Absolute beast.

Oh btw...on the video the voice says Dylan runs a 4.45 and THAT part is not close to being true.

Except that they weren't the team that made him an offer back when nobody did - LSU was.

Yeah, Nick is losing his touch. Should've been all over this kid in Pop Warner.

You've got to give that little kid credit, though.
But, 6-2, 205, 4.4 forty in eighth grade. The other kids don't stand a chance.

Fwiw, I do not believe he has run a laser timed 4.4 40 yd dash. Only 9 players at the 2013 combine did that and such a feet would make him faster than such players as Denard Robinson and Cordarelle Patterson (who is a projected 1st round pick). I don't doubt he is great especially for his age but the people who are making him more than what he currently is are really not doing him any favors in the long run.
