are fixing games in terms of point spread. The second half of our game today and especially the last minute made me think something I never believe or buy in to when others suggest it. The spread being around 17-17 1/2 and calls made against us every time it looked we were going to run far away from that really made it seem obvious something is up.

Honest question: did you bet the 17.5?

Nope and haven't bet on a regular season college basketball since my junior year at UF when Tim Duncan and Wake Forest came to the O'Dome only a 2pt favorite. It was last time I ever bet on a game the Gators played in too because I felt bad I won a lot betting against them and because it sucks twice as bad when we lose and I lose a bet on us to win.

Thanks for your response, danky. The PY foul could have gone the other way. Was there really that much else to question? I felt, for the majority of the game, the refs let UF play. If anything, we got away with more than they did, except for Powell's obvious 4th foul on a Murphy layup.

Accusing someone of fixing games is serious. Is that really what you want to do?

Danky has a point, and I've been saying for years it's only a matter of time until a big scandal like he's pointed out is exposed in the CBB ranks.

Isn't it amazing that this game was called pretty well overall, but Arkie was allowed to do anything at will when we were at Bud Walton (even though we couldn't hit a basket to save our lives)?

There really aren't SEC refs like in football, right? They are all NCAA refs.

Well, Refs are not paid a lot (unlike BB coaches, for example), and with all the money that changes hands relative to NCAA basketball, it certainly wouldn't be particularly surprising that refs would try to get a share.

Yes. I've seen Teddy Valentine do multiple games in the Big 10.

I think poor refereeing has more to do with home/away than it does with the spread. I'd love to see the stats on it.

Ideally, I think the NCAA needs to have someone watch and re-watch games and give the refs an assessment on calls they made wrong and calls they made right -- similarly to the MLB.

Well like I said in first post I NEVER subscribe to this type of conspiracy theory or really even pay attention when others are just talking about poor officiating. But there were some calls/no-calls that were very suspicious due to how bad they were, momentum of game and timing of calls/no calls score in relation to spread.

And honestly I didn't think about spread factor till noticing that last call on Pat gave Arky a chance to cover. Then I thought back to the timing of all the bad refereeing I saw in 2nd half that went against us and almost all stopped momentum because we were about to blow it wide open and beyond a 3 point game in relation to the spread. If you DVR'd game go watch 2nd half again and tell us if it didn't seem that way? Unfortunately I didn't record game and I may be wrong. If someone does watch it again let us know what you think.

The crew tonight did not have a good game. I am surprised that it didn't get even more chippy out there seeing that nobody on the floor (players and refs) knew what a foul was tonight. Most of the calls were totally random. It really sucks to play a game like that.

Added in edit: I don't think there was any "fix". Those refs aren't good enough to pull that off.

I think Ark calling time outs in the last few mins while down 17 is more suspicious than anything the refs did...

I prefer to think you get what you pay for. The SEC is a football conference and the refs know that. That said, I think they are human and let the situation cloud their judgement. So the bogus traveling calls are bad reffing and charge/blocks/hacking the shooter are judged based on the hype at the time and the way the offense is playing. A strong move to the basket gets many more calls than what a finesse shooter does.

Unlike football officials, basketball officials can belong to a number of different conferences. It is my understanding that an official cannot work a tourney game of a conference in which they work unless they belong to both conferences. This has eliminated several officials from working a final four in the past.

Worried about hurting the refs feelings? Maybe, you're still feeling the effects of your illness.
