Excited because it was such a great year for filmmaking, but also disappointed that so many directors were left out of the running. Might not be such a great idea to allow up to 10 best picture nominees, but limit the number of nominations for directors.

I would be surprised if the Lincoln movie does not get several awards.

I liked it but suspenseful dramas totally stress me out. I generally have to walk and pace about my condo when watching such movies so and airplane probably wasn't the ideal place for me. Lol!
I thought the cast was great, particularly Alan Arkin and John Goodman. It definitely has all the elements of a very good Hollywood movie.
On a personal note, I was a kid during this period but I vividly remember the times and the stresses of life at that time. Parallels our times right now in a variety of ways.
I definitely have some strong opinions about Jimmy Carter's remarks at the end of the movie.
Ben Afflick did an amazing job here. He tells a very good story.

We don't go to movies anymore because it is WAY to expensive. With all the other alternatives, and the great home theaters that are affordable these days, we can't justify the cost to go to the movies.

Just saw it the other day and loved it. You should listen to this interview with Wes Anderson about the movie:

I don't go the movies as often as many on here may do, but when I do, I go to the Cobb 18 Theatres at the Lakeland Town Center, which is only about 2 miles from me. They're beautiful. I go Mon-Thur at the early times around 1:00 P.M. or so because they have very good Senior discounts then. And I don't waste money on the popcorn and drinks etc. They're expensive. I'm sure that's where theatres like to make a good profit.

We don't see movies near as often as we used to but we watched Argo last night and saw Silver Linings today. Thought Argo was OK, definitely not great and definitely not Best Picture worthy. Just kind of a linear, narrative, this is what happened kinda movie. I did not care for the acting job Ben A. did. It is amazing that he was able to build as much tension as he did (given the fact that we knew the story/how it ended). LOVED Silver Linings. Best movie I've seen in years. Loved the acting. Loved the characters. Loved the storyline. Loved the humor. Great movie.

A client of mine that lives in LA has put real estate development to the side and became an executive producer. His movies so far have included End of Watch, Alex Cross, Broken City, and yet to be released The Tomb, Empire State, 2 Guns, Lone Survivor, and just beginning to shoot Monopoly and Motor City .
He invited me to go with him to the Oscars and I couldn't think of something that I could be less interested in let alone spend the $$ to fly out to LA and spend the weekend. I'm just hoping he hits it big with one of them so we can go build the caribbean resort I have been tinkering with for the last 7 years waiting on him to commit to funding the development. So far, not so good.

So he'll fund a resort but not a plane ticket? :)
He just offered the ticket, guess my company isn't that valuable to include the plane ticket and lodging. Besides, he will make money on the resort and casino, especially if they legalize online gaming as the island is a US territory. He already owns the 2300 acres so it is just about when he starts. 1.5 miles of shoreline with a 600 +/- acre valley that can hold three hotels of varying character/price point and ridgeline residences 800 feet up with views all the way to St. Thomas and St. John on a clear day. Former Rockefeller property. Considering it will take 3 to 4 years to design, permit, and construct. I am thinking he needs to get started

Best Original Screenplay - Django Unchained
Didn't see it. Until I do, I'm very disappointed neither Moonrise Kingdom or Zero Dark Thirty one that award.
Waiting to hear what my daughter thought of the whole night. She has been wrapped up in this event since she was 14, hosting a party at our home every year. Now she's away at film school. I imagine she'll have some strong opinions.

Strange, both you and I share the same views on Moonrise Kingdom as we discussed this upon release. I saw Django and do not believe that it deserved this award. If it was full of Tarantino twists and turns as usual, then yes, it may have deserved this award. But Django was a lot like Argo to me. Both good films that are must see's, but both are kind of 'you know what's going to happen, and then it happens' type of films. No plot twists at all. Nothing about Django jumped out and grabbed me the way that Moonrise did.
I've seen every film nominated for Best Picture and in my opinion Silver Linings Playbook should have won it from that group. That was a refreshing film that combined real life problems with comedy. Couple that with 4 brilliant acting performances by the leads and it was fantastic. But the true best picture in my mind was Moonrise Kingdom.
