This is actually a pretty interesting story.
The mother of the child just so happens to also be a big time lobbyist.
What kind of power does having a secret like this over a senator buy you?

These things happen. What really matters is how they govern. Do you really care otherwise?

It's an interesting news item that certainly exposes his flaws and probably some hypocrisy, But who here isn't flawed?
I don't really care that he voted for Clinton's impeachment since rank hypocrisy is to politics what criminality is to being a seminole. Though I have to admit I am curious as to what he might have said in his public statements about Clinton during that period...but not curious enough to even go looking :)

Flaws are one thing, but compromising yourself in a position of authority is quite another.

DC is a Brothel and the political class Harlots, nothing more.
____
Does it matter? In an ideal world it could be argued that it matters because actions coule affect their independent professional judgement by subjecting them to blackmail or influence... But the reality is that they are all bought and paid for so they might shag who they want and hope their wives don't go Blenday Gay on them...

It's the hypocrites on both sides...just the Pubs for YEARS somehow think they are the only ones that have a stronghold on morality and what is right and wrong...
Too funny...did the other senator lend his daughter out for $$$...?

I would imagine a lame duck Senator could f$ck whoever they wanted without repercussion. Term limits might encourage indiscretion!

What I learned from this thread: Prominent liberal posters here think Clinton's Impeachment was over extra-marital sex.

THIS! This is the greatest threat from these types of situations - the potential for political blackmail. It's as though we need to elect eunuchs to represent us.

I dont know ... in every movie or show, the eunuch is always pulling strings, being scheming and devious and all. Not thinking about sex all the time gives you endless amounts of time to plan and plot.

And currently we have a Dem Senator who buys sex from underage women in the Dominican Republic. Also his air fair for the sex parties was covered by a campaign donner.
Both sides of the aisle are hypocrites on this issue. It is way past time for both sides either to agree that such action are acceptable or unacceptable,
If acceptable the we need to let it ad the transgression are uncovered.
If unacceptable we need to kick then out of office and the House members that provided cover.
Which option do you want Fred?

Makes one wonder how much extortion money or favors the senator was paying out?
Makes one wonder who was extorting the Senator. Was it a campaign donner, another House member, the pimps in the Dom Repub, or some political king makers?

There is a good chance that most Congressmen would spend their first term figuring out what Washington is about, meeting people, etc. Then if you throw them out after their second term, they haven't had as much time to screw around. Besides, if they had to return to private life after Congress to make a living, how many would risk getting their names in the paper?

I think this thread has missed the other side of this issue. This is one of the most powerful lobbyists in Washington. Is this the first or last time? One has to wonder how many legislators she has slept with and what legislation resulted from it.
Geez she is a Senators daughter. I wonder how much influence her father had in her indiscretions.

What's the difference between a "personal" transgression & a "moral" transgression? Other than we live in a age where to some, moral transgressions are all relative, subject to public opinion & personal preference. If that's the case, how can we castigate ole' Pete, maybe he follows the road most traveled these days.
