Scientists say the Higgs boson (if it has really been discovered) could mean that the universe is inherently unstable, and tens of billions of years from now it will get completely wiped out.

The good news is, it will happen at the speed of light, so whoever is here won't know what hit them. The bad news is, just think what the U.S. deficit will be tens of billions of years from now. (What comes after gazillions?) But I guess going completely out of existence is the best way to default.

But the sun will likely run out of hydrogen in a scant five billion years or so. Right around the corner!
