How is Bama #7 they have won more National titles then anybody including 3 of 4. No way Uga belongs a head of Bama. I also don't agree with Osu ahead of Florida.

1) Texas, 2) USC, 3) Fla, 4-10) Debatable, many are willing to write checks but don't have the resources to compete with the Big 3.
ND may still have a big war chest and a bunch of delusional fans but too much competition for recruits to maintain superior elite prospects.

The guy runs around Jax with Hacker on his hat and has a Jags jersey with Hacker on the back. Probably the biggest douche in Duval.

Seems about right but I'd replace FSU with Oregon and VT with somebody, maybe Oklahoma State

As OBOB noted, that article is from quite a while ago. The FSU picture shows Bowden on the sidelines and USC shows Pete Carroll.

Bama is lower for two reasons-
1) Pressure (also why Florida is behind OSU-- you think we'd take a coach who lost to Georgia 4 or 5 years in row?)
2) No one wants to follow a legend- following a Spurrier or a Meyer is hard, unless you're a top level coach you're always going to look worse than the guy before you (see Zook vs. Spurrier in terms of record; or Boom vs. Meyer so far) following Saban will be even worse.

I would say that Texas at one since they have their pick of the state of Tx, lots of money, make lots of money, winnable conf, there is patience from the high-ups. After that:
2) Florida (solid recruiting in state, patience to win, good support from fans/alum)
3) Alabama (I think the pressure to win can be hindering and they can't recruit the state by themselves
4) LSU (A scaled down Tx in my opinion)
5) Ohio St
6) USCw
7) ND
8) Mich
9) OU
10) Oregon

Splitting hairs in a lot of cases. Throw a 4 or 5 into a hat and take your pick, as long as UF is # 1.

ESPN did a study a few years back where they polled coaches and wouldn't release the names. Anyhow, Florida came out an overwhelming #1 (120 coaches) and Florida had around 50 first place votes and next closest was Texas at 35 or so. Was a very interesting article (around 2005 or so i believe)
Anyhow, here's my list....
#1- Texas (hotbed for recruiting in large state and no competitors except OU)
#2- Florida (great recruiting, large fan base, best school in state, $$$$, The Swamp!)
#3- LSU (like someone else said, a smaller version of texas)
#4- Georgia (like it or not a sleeping Giant and we've always been in their way and if a truly great coach ever shows up to their door step it's gonna get crazy)
#5- USC (LA, recruiting, LA, recruitng and recruiting)
#6- Ohio State
#7- Alabama
#8- Oklahoma
#9- Michigan
#10- Notre Dame

Everyone who keeps saying Texas owns the state needs to consider--things are a'changing in the Lone Star state. A&M is gaining loads of ground right now with JFF and now being a member of SEC. OU still takes its share of talent out of Texas and while for quite some time it HAS been UT and OU being the big2 to claim their loot, the lofty ranking of the Longhorns is on a slippery slope unless some changes take place out there. A&M is making some serious noise over there.
Yeah, they are still the most profitable but if their program keeps having the hiccups as of recently--wouldn't surprise me to see them begin to lose their stanglehold on that elite status they have had for so long.

I remember that poll. Isn't the top job by definition the one that most coaches would want? I think it is, so I put UF #1 until another poll shows otherwise.
But, I would agree with UF, Texas and USC being the long-term top 3 programs based on them being the leading schools in the top 3 talent-producing states.
Why is UGA a Sleeping Giant? Does the talent produced in Georgia rival that of Florida? Or, is there some other factor I'm not aware of?

Texas is fat, happy and stupid...And filthy, stinking rich. If they continue to be so then yes, A&M can make a serious run eventually. But Texas isn't Ohio or Michigan. When you are the flagship university of the most prosperous/independent state that lives for football, I think they are going to kick it into gear and pretty much be top dog. I give USCw second because of all of the people living there. Now if UCLA gets serious about being the western edition of UTx and UF then I can see them in that spot (USC has more in common with UM). But history says otherwise.

In no particular order, top-tier jobs are:
Bama, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida, LSU, Texas, Michgan, Notre Dame
#10 right now is Oregon in my book.

Top job is going to be a combination of resources, recruiting base, fan/alumni support (other than money) and quality of life.
Texas, UF and USC are top 3 in any order. Georgia doesn't belong at this level, but it is next tier because GA is adjacent to Florida's great talent resource.
Keep in mind that we know from history that the state of Florida has enough quality
D-1 talent to stock 3 Top Ten programs. Georgia could tap that.
ND and Ohio State are 6 to 10 because the top talent is being drawn more to warm climates these days.

No offense, but Bama and Oklahoma are on the top of any tier you might construct. Bama's recruiting area is as talent rich as any when you consider they OWN Mississippi and are heavyweights across the SE if not the nation.
Same goes for Oklahoma in that they are on equal footing with Texas in Texas and own the mudwest.
Both of those programs enjoy a depth of tradition and alumni support with old money plus they are currently relevant (Bama dominant).
I don't think there is a too 3. It's at minimum 5 if not more. Parsing among them requires splitting hairs on current and relatively temporary distinctions.
Notre Dame is an odd animal since they are in most ways on pat with USC as a private national program with tons of support and tradition. They have spent too many of the last 30 years irrelevant - but they have that unique NBC deal for very good reason. As a job, top 10 - but not on par with Bama or USC for now.

Yes, I'm sure coaches factor all of that in when they are polled about which is the best job in the country. I'll still go with their vote as pretty much defining which is the top job. It would be interesting to see if we're still on top if they run another poll.
