View Full Version : Beware: Missouri in Columbia!!!

what?! no chatter about Missouri?

they're a different team now: in columbia - like most teams, they feed off the home crowd's energy - and they have a pretty darn good home atmospher - just ask any jayhawk fan;
+ Bowers, while we're down a man. so the make up of both teams is different. the tigers in arguably a major way.
they will be out to avenge that earlier beat down. extra incentive. can we even come close to their energy?
we just had a hot shooting game. do we perform at that same level or regress back to the 'norm'?

gotta bring our A+ game

Expect a very tough game.
A close road win would be very good for this team's confidence in clutch time.
Just no more Arkansas games please.

I have this down as UF's 2nd loss in my pre-conference predictions. But as things played out UF has a real shot. I agree that this is the key game of the conference play now. When this one and UF might win out. Lose it and UF might finish 4-2 or even 3-3 in the last six in the SEC.

I don't think at UT will be a gimme either, especially if their PG doesn't turn it over as he has been prone to do.

I agree that this should be our toughest game left in the regular season.

Wilben and co. may very well keep Pressey's scoring down again, but I'll be surprised if Pressey doesn't show us (well at least the few of us that care about passing) a dynamic playmaking game this time around. He's an incredibly gifted passer who I doubt will be so loose with the ball this time around (now that he's had a taste of what our defense can do to any loose ball-handling :joecool:).

One gambling house has moved the line to 5.5 and the rest are steady at Gators minus 5, meaning that we're slim favorites against a really good team on the road. No need to pout and panic if things don't go our way tomorrow night.

They are REALLY fired up for this game, angry about Saturday and wanting to finally make a statement in their new league. It's going to be an Arizona like environment and they shoot 42% from three at home. I would be really really surprised if it was easy for us.

Last Mizzou loss at home was last season to Kansas. It was their only loss of the year.

They shoot much better at home and have the "heart and soul" of their team back in Bowers.

Florida will need their A game to pull this one out.

I am hopeful that Florida will play well and pull out a big road win against a good team.

On the road, I'm happy with killing em by 1.

I wouldn't be suprised with a loss tonight. We're certainly good enough to beat them on their home floor, but there will be some adversity. I'll be happy if we play well, even if its a close loss.

What I don't want to see is a repeat of the first half at Arky. I'd like to see us keep our composure throughout and force them to play their very best to beat us.

This game is not tougher than at top 10 Az and K St.. I think mizzou is given too much credit on this thread. Solid team for sure, but UF should win again.

Anticipate a loss here. MIZ wants this one and the are undefeated at home. In addition, Columbia is a travel nightmare so logistics are possibly a factor.

Wouldn't expect a double digit win at all. Just hoping for a W. They haven't lost at home this year. Yes they have been disappointing at times this season and have some bad losses, but this is by far their biggest game of the year and they also have a legit shot at the tournament to play for unlike most of the teams we have remaining. Their fans know this so it will be a very tough test. Spread is around UF -4.5 which is completely different than the 15-20+ point spreads we have had in a lot of our recent games. Will be a great confidence booster if we can take this one and will help to improve our perception if we look good in a primetime national TV game.

We've had our issues on the road this year. We need to prove to ourselves and the committee that we can win tough games away from home. This may be our last chance.

I think we pull it off and win by 5-10, but we haven't proven we can win a game like this yet.

It is the last opt for a quality road win. And again, it would really help the psyche of team were it a close game where clutch shot, fts and d were the factor in final 3 mins. Not having a winning experience like that before tourney can't help confidence given previous two years of exits, and arizona.

Arkansas was hitting 80% from 3 point range for awhile there and finished with around 55% . their average for the year is 25% from 3-land. I dont care who you are, if you shoot alot of 3's and you make that many, with no rebounds and fast breaks to come off of no misses, every team will lose to that. Arkansas will not do that again and Missouri will not either.

I would expect them to try to get Young in foul trouble and get us to shoot from the outside. If we swarm on defense and pass the ball , we should win.

I'll take a win no matter how close....or how much a blowout. I'm expecting a tough game from Missouri.

But, the discussion makes me wonder:

Would we get more credit from the national media/pollsters for a close win over a respectable opponent or for a blowout win that would "prove" Missouri is merely another SEC "paper Tiger"?

Arkansas was the game where they showed up way better than they usually play and we were not as prepared as we needed to be. That is college basketball. But I agree that if we want a No. 1 seed, this is as good a time to show we can handle adversity as there may be this season (Tenn at their home is still an option). It should be fun.

This is something a lot of people fail to recognize when I read some of these threads. Our defense is holding teams to an average of 52 ppg. That is 13 points per 10 minutes.

Arkansas scored 35 points in the first 10 minutes. If we were to have held them to our defensive average the rest of the game, they'd still score 75. That is a huge hole to be in, and considering we only scored 69, it proved to be too much to climb out of (we average 74 ppg this season).

My take on this game is if we play the ball we have played in pretty much all of our wins, we win this one in the 10-15 point range. I don't think we need our best basketball of the year tonight. We just need to keep doing what we have been doing. No need to change.

There have been a lot of teams in the Top 10 that have been losing or struggling on the road recently.

I think home teams with large, boisterous crowds make men's college basketball the most difficult of all college sports to win as a road team.
