I suspect we'll see an explosion of employers looking for "part-time" employees willing to work 30-35 hours per week to get around the Obamacare healthcare requirements--and employers staggering these new "part-time" employees to make sure their businesses are always appropriately staffed.

The new normal is going to be... hell it already is... young people working two 20-30 hour jobs that don't offer benefits and collecting whatever government assistance they can reach for to secure the lifestyle to which they are accustomed and/or to which they feel entitled. And if the minimum wage goes to $9, they will work one 20-30 hour job and have another they get hours from once every couple weeks.

The whole plan from the start was to get everyone into a single payor health situation. Everyone will be falling into the government system, government keeps growing, in charge of more money and resources, now your own life depends on the bureaucrats. They've got it all. It's over folks we all work for or are dependent upon the government for everything. Hallelujah!

That's why you've been seeing the stories about restaurant workers being cut to 29 hours or less. It won't be limited to just one industry.

Nope. Many will (if they haven't already) go that route. That said, I am not sure Obamacare is totally to blame for this trend.

It is surely responsible for the acceleration of the trend.

For the corporations, it is purely a business decision.

While the penalties are cheaper now, they will increase. However, does anyone expect that the health insurance costs won't also increase as well?

My suspicion is that the penalties will continue to be cheaper over time, and that really is part of the design of the program. To eventually drive the system toward single payer.

Corporations have been cutting benefits for decades now. They'll never miss a good excuse to cut more. It's all about the almighty dollar, short term profits and pleasing the board.

They only invented benefits to circumvent government intrusion into compensation, so offering or not offering them is really within their discretion and should solely be determined by what they require to be competitive for top employees.

I agree, but it helps to move it along. I am not sure where the NLRB is going to fall in all of this. I know that the Federal courts shot down Obama's executive selection of some of his cronies in it at the end of the last session but I expect that things are going to get back to the way they have planned it. You know, if you want to tend cattle, you have to make sure that you patch all of the holes in the fences.

Probably what is going to happen is that the vast majority of the businesses will be 50 employees or less (too small to bother) with massive government hiring and a few well connected too-big-to fail government backstopped "private" businesses.
