Tragic ending to a sad life. My heart goes out to her children.

Sadly this isn't a surprise. Feel bad for her family and wonder what role her husband's death played in this.

Just read this. A beautiful and talented woman who had serious problems. Once her husband committed suicide, I feared she wouldn't be far behind. I wish I had been wrong. I read where her two children have been in foster care. I hope a member of the Nashville royalty steps up, adopts them and gives them a stable and loving home. The oldest one has been through so much and now he loses his mother. God bless those kids.

Hate to say it but those around her will probably be better off now. Why shoot the dog? That bothers me more.

I was not familiar with her but read the story last night. Sounds like she had a very troubled life. I also understood that her mother had custody of one of the children which is was not a good sign.

This story ended worse than any country song I can remember.
Two precious little lives now have no maternal mother to raise them.

It is always tragic when someone takes his/her own life, but I have to be honest. . .
I can not help feel a bit of anger over the cowardice of bailing on your kids. That seems very selfish to me.

Mental illness!!!
Failure of medical people & facilities that take care of sick (mental) people.
I believe we have passed laws that make it difficult to hold mental patients.

I agree...when you bring new life into this world, you longer have the right to be selfish.
And if you felt unfit to be a mother in the first place, don't have kids.

Didn't realize she had survived previous suicide attempts. She was definitely acute. This has nothing to do with being famous.
People have no idea what a serious depressive episode is like. When you hit bottom, you actually believe that you are doing your spouse and you kids a favor by leaving this world. Acute depression can take the form of psychosis. You don't literally hear voices, but your perception of yourself and the world around you is very distorted.
I kept a journal during my illness 18 years ago. It's like reading about someone completely out of touch with reality, but at the time, it was the only reality I knew. Waking up every day, assuming I even slept, was like waking to the most painful grief you've every experienced, but it never goes away. It's like Groundhog Day, except it wasn't a comedy. You have no appetite, no sex drive, no enjoyment of anything in the world. I lost 50 pounds in four months without knowing it until I tried to put on my suit for a job interview. You don't stop loving people, but loving them is painful because you believe that you are hurting them by being alive. It's not sadness. It's illness.
You can't be judgmental unless you've been through this before.

It's a bit of a misnomer that suicide may be sometimes considered "selfish" - it is only selfish in the most literal sense (most people don't take "selfishness" this way) - the same way taking care of your kids is selfish (i.e. because that's what is important to you). It is not selfish from the standpoint of an individual plotting out what's best for oneself; it's a malfunction of the brain. There is no "looking out for me" approach to suicide as if it is making one's life better in any capacity. The flaw in calling suicide "selfish" is based on the idea that it may be considered a rational action...it is not.

Shooting the dog removes any pity I might otherwise have felt. F*** her.
