Katz asked a question after the Syracuse/UConn game at the presser and Boeheim responds by calling him an idiot and a disloyal person. Wow, what in the world?

Wow... What was the question??? Shouldn't have called him an idiot though. How would he react if Katz called him an idiot.

"Disloyal."
I'm pretty sure Katz's loyalties lie with ESPN, though I'm sure it was something negative said about Calhoun or Syracuse that ticked him off.

Katz reported what a player told him, that he had an issue with two paragraphs on a paper he wrote that led to his eligibility problems. Boeheim and the school apparently thought that was privileged information and Katz should have just reported the generic "academic issue" even though he just said what the player had told him. And youre right OBOB, Katz responded to Boeheim that he wasnt an employee of Syracuse or something along those lines.

Coach looked super pissed during the presser.

Probably regrets it. Im surprised this kind of stuff doesnt happen more. God knows what I would say if I was a big time coach and you stuck a mic in my face after a bad loss.

When it follows a bad loss its probably a coach issue and not a media member issue.

Boeheim does this crap to remind us he's the biggest baby in D1 coaching.

It was probably rooted back to the Bernie Fine situation but the recent eruption was apparently a result of Katz's disclosure of academic eligibility issues with Syracuse player James Southerland. Perhaps JB thought some of the information Katz got on Southerland should not have been reported or was considered to be off the record.

If you were being paid millions of dollars, I'm sure you wouldn't snap too often.

Does that apply when the student releases the info himself? (assuming that's what happened)

The pressure is on for media personalities like Andy being paid the big bucks. Folks work for years as interns or very lowly paid folks to work their way up the highly public ladder. It's like complaining about 9pm home games during the week...it's why we get paid the big bucks on the SEC/ESPN contract. Prices go up and so does pressure. That said, the writers of the 60's and 70's weren't competing with internet and were accomodated much more by the coaches BECAUSE they left the story on the game and not on non-game stuff on players.

I like Katz, but don't know his side of the story on this. Evidently Boeheim told him last year about a player that was off the record and Katz ran with it. Thats Jim's side of the story at least. Seems like a ballsy thing to do if you're Andy.
I don't know Katz's side of this and I dislike Boeheim, so I'm siding with Katz. I don't have to be fair.

Boeheim is the absolue king in Syracuse and with that said I think he was just suffering from a slight case of BBD - Big Baby Disease.

I've always really liked Syracuse and Boeheim. It goes back to Pearl Washington and Sherman Douglas. Or maybe it's all that orange. Either way, these past couple years are making it much harder for me to root for Boeheim. He needs to retire after this season. He has become way too cranky and mean, and his sense of humor is gone.

Expound?
"The Buckley Amendment was designed to establish the rights of students, to inspect and review their education records, prevent the release of educational records to third parties without permission of the student, and to provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through formal and informal hearings."
Student educational records are privileged. The student has to give permission for them to be released to third parties.

If the student releases the information to the third party himself that's his right.

Not a Boeheim fan. He is as big a cheater as Calhoun imo.
Just curious----- whatever happened with the Fine case?? Get thrown out of court?, still under investigation, still with the school? Inquiring minds need to keep current on these things. Thanks.

Thats what I was wondering too. No doubt it would have gotten more attention were it not for PSU.
Last I heard Fine's wife was doing interviews saying she knew about the child sexual abuse her husband was guilty of. This was, of course, after Boeheim launched his attack on anyone saying anything about Fine and, I think, stating as a "fact" that he knew Fine was innocent. Funny we haven't heard him speak about this lately.

Just heard on Doug Gottlieb's show that the problem between Boeheim and Katz came from an interview they did pre season this year or last. According to Boeheim.....Katz said he was going to ask Boeheim about something... whatever.... in this interview. Yet, when the interview started Katz only asked Boeheim about the Berrnie Fine matter. Boeheim said he couldn't talk about that. He said Katz continued to repeatedly ask about Fine trying to get Boeheim's reaction on camera. Boeheim said he repeatedly told Katz he couldn't answer. Finally, Boeheim told Katz he'd never do another interview with Katz and would never speak to him again, either.
I'm guessing we'll hear another version of this incident from Katz.

Boeheim comes off a bit smug and full of himself but I haven't heard of him being in the same company as Calhoun.

I am pretty sure that I read (or heard) that the Fine case was thrown out of court because of the unreliability of the "alleged" abused kids (now grown-ups). This ocurred, if I am correct, about 2-3 months ago.

I agree 100%....Boeheim used to be a funny guy. Now it seems like he is going the way of Calhoun. A cranky old man who doesn't seem like he wants to be bothered with any thing or challenged in any way. That he automatically expects every thing to go his way every time.

I never cared for Boeheim. He took over a program that Danforth built up, but I never saw Boeheim credit him at all. Of course there were not as many basketball information outlets in those days.
Katz seems ok to me, but has really fallen down on the job by not reporting on this on his podcast or taking a question on it on his chat. I bet half the questions on chat were about this and they ignored them all.
Typical lack of journalism on ESPN. A big story involving one of their employees and you would not have heard of it if you were not on the internet or some other outlet.
