to definitively make the following statement
Scottie Wilbekin is the SEC Player of the Year
and it's not even a debate. Never before at the college level have a seen a perimeter player so single handidly be able to dominate and dictate a game ON THE DEFENSIVE END OF THE FLOOR.
the kid is all over the place on defense. he can rotate on anyone. had a few sequences against big men.....even denied Noel an entry pass on a rotation.
he creates so much havic and leads to team steals and out of position shots.
in fact, I am almost ready to say that he is my favorite gator PG of all time. a title currently held by taureen green.
my analysis is as follows:
Green and SW are basically equal at this point in game management, ability to set up team mates, decision making, maximizing opportunity, and subtlties of game play for the position.
Green was an overall better scorer when called upon. Could always step up when needed to score. Could always hit the deep 3. This is an area where SW has yet to prove himself but is getting very good at taking advantage of his opportunities when needed.......advantage still to Green
but honestly.....SW is now in the top 5 top perimeter defenders that I have ever seen at the college level. please watch him off the ball....it is almost a thing of beauty. the kid NEVER gets hung up in off the ball screens. he seems to have a knack at seeing them before they are coming and not only gets around them but beats his offensive man to the angle (not only the spot)
his help side defense on the collapse is almost always impeccible in its timing, positioning, footwork, and hand speed
his rotation defense is always there before hand
seriously.....what you are seeing is defensive perfection in almost all it's forms......
PLEASE everyone, NOTICE, APPRECIATE AND ENJOY! You are witnessing something extraordinary.
and know that he is not only our most important player but also right now the front runner for SEC POY!
did anyone notice when SW went out with that limp and UK was down by like 18, they had a noticeable jump in their step like they had a chance with SW down.....even went on a little run.....SW came back in and that went away really quick.....
the SEC writers better recognize!
anyone with me on this? if not.....who is your alternative opinion?
