Pete Roussel @coachingsearch
I have learned that Nick Saban has hired Kevin Steele to serve in an off-the-field capacity. Details coming on http://Coachingsearch.com
A few months back a poster made a thread about how Saban basically has another full staff of coaches that are classified as analyst while they cant have contact with players they help the staff in other roles such as breaking down tape and in some recruiting capacities.
If this continues which it will other teams will have to expand the football budget to keep up.

I call bullshit that they don't contact recruits. Bama and Saban are as dirty as they get.
We don't need to stoop to that level to be successful.

Most likely they will be using him to address issues with keeping the T police department in check.

Once again, Bama stretches the rules to the breaking point--when it doesn't actually break them. The NCAA needs to regulate the number of analysts schools can have, just like it regulates the number of coaches. What else does Steel know how to do, if it isn't coaching football?
Isn't this in response to the NCAA rules saying that there are no limits on the number of people from a school who can contact recruits? Sounds like Saban is setting up a strictly recruiting office that won't be coaching the players.

No they have been doing this for years Steel is just the newest hire but I am sure these guys will be contacting recruits come August when the new rules are in place.

True. As good as Saban and his staff are, Bams makes an art out of "bending" rules. It really is a joke.

We need to horry up and hire 20 additional analysts to keep up.

Muschamp basically blasted the rule change publicly a few days ago, he hates that some schools already break secondary rules violations on purpose. Now schools will hire full time staff to text recruits 24/7 pretending to be the coach.

Read "Off the field role" as "another guy to help us cheat".
No news here. Saban is still a liar and an ass hat.
Bama fans are still red necked douche bags.
Florida still has to be much better than Bama to get past institutionalized league Bama bias in order to win an SEC title.

I keep going back to: at what cost? Do you want your university to become nothing but a farm system for the NFL? I feel sorry for the Bama graduates. Their degrees are being marginalized by their university's current priorities. I will be embarrassed of we follow in kind. JMHO

Shea Dixon @Sheadixon
Les Miles confirms that former QB coach Steve Kragthorpe will move into an admin position. Sounds like he will help w recruiting
Miss State did the same thing they hired Billy Gonzales as WR caoch and now thier TE coach Scott Sallach will move to an off-the-field position as the program’s coordinator of football scouting.

Will people still consider it cheating if we start doing it or will it be ok? Heck, we may be doing it already.

Huh? When have SEC schools not been farm systems for the NFL? How this diminshes a diploma is a pretty crazy connection.

nobody has a title like that in our directory yet but I would hope its coming. One other thing I learned by looking our directory is Dan Wenger was a football grad assistant this year.

I little off subject of thread, but about BAMA and fans; last night for Valentines evening wife and I do to dinner at Bonefish restaurant, not too fancy, but really good food for the price, across the aisle in a booth was BAMA fan with wife and two preschoolers. The sit there with their cellphones taking some photos and looking at pictures, the man/father has on a camo ball game with the bama 'A' in the regular font and leaves it on his head at all times until we left. Camo hat on head in nice restaurant? uncouth. that's your typical BAMA fan right there.

Does the term "mouth breather" ring a bell? We all have them. If we truly value diversity they add to it.

As for Sallach, Mullen realized over the years that Mississippi State was understaffed in terms of off-the-field personnel. With the upcoming recruiting deregulations allowing non-coaches to contact recruits, this will help the Bulldogs catch up to the rest of the conference.
"We go play a lot of teams, I look at the sideline and they have six quality control guys on offense, six on defense," Mullen said. "I guess we're understaffed in the Southeastern conference a little bit that way. Here is a guy that's a great analytical guy in the game of football, and this allows us to open that up and create a position where we can try to catch up to the rest of the league in that way in our off-the-field personnel."

So to keep it thread appropriate, is the guy on Bamas payroll? Has Saban locked up the preschoolers yet? C'mon man we need to know what we are up against!

My first line was "at what cost." Everything has a give and take and I understand that many of the football and basketball players are in a different category than the general student population. But just because some coach thinks he can march further down the road towards a pure semi-professional team because he can, the university administration, as well as the alumni, need to have a real check to verify that is what they want. And I would say that if you get sports too far away from the mission of the university then they couldn't care less about how they present themselves as representatives of the university. So you have The U football team of the 80's and 90s.
And I say again, is that what a university wants as a very visible representation of your mission? For me, there is a place that isn't for sale, even if Bama or OSU or USCw will. JMHO

NS never developed the players as a habit like he has at bama. The difference imo is he has better evals on recruits therefore fewer misses. The proof is on the field. Unless teams do the same bama will continue to dominate.
Now this doesn't make NS a cheater. What he has done is taken advantage of the rules. Unless someone from the ncaa says he's in violation he will keep on and with the results who can blame him? I hope we are doing the same if not we're at a great disadvantage.
IMO the rules ought to be changed, this should not be allowed, smaller schools cannot afford what bama is doing.
