legal zoom for LLC

anybody use legal zoom to set up LLC....its 300 bucks or so ive been told.

anybody pay someone to just do it for them? how much? CPA? lawyer?

You can do it yourself for free (minus what the state charges you) in a matter of minutes on line at sunbiz.org. Click over to the IRS website and them get your Ein, go to your bank and open an account. Hope that helps

Single member or more? If more than one person is putting $ in on a venture get a lawyer. If its just you then DIY is ok.

The real issue is not how to file the right paperwork - it's whether an LLC is really what you want (instead of a traditional corporation, partnership, s-corp, etc.).

before you do anything like that, speak with an accountant about the tax impact of structures... LLCs are flow thru entities, but depending on what you are trying to accomplish, you may be able to pick up some tax goodies using a better structure...

legal zoom is about the worst thing known to man because it allows you to do things you think you want to do without helping you figure out what really is the right thing to do for your particular situation... and fixing the unintended consequences is often difficult and costly to undo... i suspect you can find a competent lawyer for not much more than $300 to listen to your needs, provide some counsel and set up a proper business structure...

It depends on your priorities, such as tax efficiency or asset protection (inside or outside). Legal Zoom and trust mills generate thousands of dollars in clean up costs when things go awry. Most lawyers don't mind their existence because they're good for business in many cases.

a good attorney should not "suggest" things... a good attorney should understand the clients needs, identify benefits and risks of pursuing certain actions, recognize when other professional advisors may be needed to complete the picture, and allow the client to make the decision after providing sound counsel...
