Not that I care, but does this push us past anyone in the final rankings. I have to think that Scout probably considers him a 57 star athlete since he is from Big 10 country.
by the way, i secretly care about our recruiting rankings :(

The staff has been evaluating him all year. They must really like him because they could have pulled a top 20 TE like Vandy commit Mitch Parsons but instead they gave a scholarship to Young.

would he be a preferred walk on? I know we have them available but I find it hard to believe we would have 2 punters on scholarship, unless this is protection in case Christy declares next year :)

I think they will give him a scholarship we have plenty left over that were just going to go to walk ons next year anyway. Give him a redshirt and he will have 3 years to start once Christy leaves. We were going to have to take a punter next year anyways. This way we just get a kid on campus a year early.

It will be interesting to see if he stays at TE or ends up at tackle once Dillamn is done with him .

That may be true, especially if he plays basketball. With that frame and agility, he could grow into a nice tackle. Big question will be whether he has the attitude for it.

Orlando Boone High punter Johnny Townsend, after weighing numerous options, has decided to stay close to home and has signed with the Florida Gators.
Townsend, one of the top punters in the nationa who was a U.S. Army All-American, was committed since August to go to Ohio State, but given other opportunities, he decided he wanted to play football closer to family, said his father Clay Townsend on Thursday afternoon.

Like the big kid at LSU and what Kennard Swanson would have done for us, I can see Young playing some FB and OT in our jumbo package besides developing as a TE.
Put your hard hat on and welcome aboard Trevon.

Interesting. If nothing else I will definately follow Young's career and root for major success. Maybe he can be like the guy that was on the movie with Sandra Bullock.

Sometimes brutal honesty is needed. The kid has only one bball offer. He would never touch the floor at Florida unless we were up 30 which seems to happen a lot lately. He needs to focus all his time & energy into football.

While he is a project and listed in the neighborhood of 6'6" 26o# and reportedly hasn't spent much time in the weight room, he's a basketball player (meaning he's an athele). Could work into a nice DE, which CWM alluded to DL for him.

He has zero technique but you can tell he has great feet. You are right for him it will be all about his work ethic. If he works hard he has a chance to be special.

You sure they could have pulled Mitch Parsons? If they liked him so much why not just shore it up by NSD? Seems to me he's a bit of a gamble, but I like it.

I know Mitch had interest and that he spoke to the staff and sent video. They didnt pursue him after that. They did however try to get Smythe around the same time. Pretty positive they could have gotten Mitch on campus. The staff could have probably got a kid like Travis Johnson out of Tampa too.
It was a numbers thing with Young. If they had room they were going to offer him. But if we had hit on every high profile target there just would not be room. I dont think they love him but they certainly are intrigued.
The staff kind of did the same thing with OJ. They had OJ in camp thought he was a good prospect but kept it quiet. Once David Dawson didn't visit the staff moved in gave him an offer and he was committing a few days later. Remember a day before his commitment FSU and Bama asked him to move it back. The staff did not want teams all over Young until it was time for him to commit to the Gators.
The old basketball axiom applies, you can't teach size.

I have always felt that if there is one position a basketball player could walk into football and play , it is tight end. youve got height, presumably good hands and hops and relatively quick and coordinated. You learn your routes and hopefully when and how to stay back and block , but imo, an easier position to pick up than tackle where you have to read blitz looks etc, work with other guys on the line and so on. The thing about TE is you are still a line player and if you learn the game, you could grow into the tackle spot.

LOL... let me assure you... Kyle will be @ UF for 2 more seasons! Unlike another SEC punter, he understands the value of an education and enjoys the entire college experience!

Thanks but I was pretty positive Kyle would get his degree before he left Florida. Great year he had, I know he must have put in a lot of work into getting the ball off quicker. I hope you get to see him collect the Ray Guy next year.

I think Trevon Young is a great Recruit to end up the 2013 Class. 29 is a good size class. I may be wrong but I think it's the largest in sometime.
