Gators battling Eckerd College for Trevon Young, will bring on walk-on K Danny Krysalka

"Message boards were abuzz with chatter that Florida had hosted a "mystery recruit" on an official visit this weekend, and this wasn't a gimmick trying to gin up hits and subscriptions — this year, Florida boards tried that trick by teasing surprises that did not come. Trevon Young is that mystery recruit, apparently, a 6'5", 275-pound (or 6'6", 260-pound, depending on what you're reading) player who Florida has offered as a tight end according to both Rivals and 247Sports after eyeing as a lineman.

But there's a catch with Young: The Bradenton Herald's Alan Dell reports that he's deciding between Florida ... and Eckerd College, where he could play Division II college basketball. Dell paints Young as a kid who truly loves basketball, and it might be hard to pry him away from the court, but there's no other contender for his next four years as a football player.

Look for Young to make a decision at some point on Thursday.

Florida getting Young would fill a hole at tight end in the 2013 class; it's the only offensive or defensive position not played by at least one of the 28 Florida signees. But one of the biggest holes for the Gators in general is at kicker, where Caleb Sturgis has held down the job with steady, accurate placekicking for four years.

It's going to be filled with a competition, apparently: Florida, with Brad Phillips and Austin Hardin already on its roster, will bring Ocala kicker Danny Krysalka to Gainesville as a preferred walk-on, according to Adam Silverstein of Only Gators ... and the website of a kicking camp Krysalka attended. I've considered Hardin, who was an Under Armour All-American in 2012, the favorite to win the kicker job, but Florida likely doesn't feel completely comfortable with Hardin and Phillips if it is bringing on preferred walk-ons."

Doesn't feel comfortable with who they have, OR they like to have depth at special teams' most important position/stick it to rival teams who need kickers more than we do?

How the hell does Phillips still have eligibility, seems like he was battling Chris Hetland during urbs first year

if the kid loves basketball that much, then I wonder how commited he would be to football when the going gets tough.

Are you thinking of Jonathon Phillips? He was at UF for at least 5 years. I think he ended up going to LAW School...I don't know anything about Brad Phillips other than he filled in for Caleb on a kick and missed it badly. (Unless Im mistaken)

I think if the coaches were really uncomfortable with our kicking situation Champ would be spending a ship on a kicker. Given his empahsis on special teams and winning close games, it would make sense for him to want to get as much competition in as possible. I would think we will see this a lot with Will...

These guys are experiments but Coach Muschamp recruited well enough he can take these chances. I hope one of them works out but odds are probably 60% neither does.

Krysalka appears to be a decent kicker.
