Obama is the champion of large government and believes that government knows best. I am just curious if those of you left leaning board members subscribe to the philosophy of larger government is best for our Nation?

hmmm we rail against Gov waste and fraud, yet we complain about auditing charities who are some of the leading contributors to defrauding the Gov out of taxes

How are they leading defrauders? Care to elaborate?

Keep in mind that even though the business entity itself doesn't pay taxes, all of its employees (and the charity) pay employment and income taxes.

Nothing wrong with cracking down on so-called charities that are tax cheats, it should be part of the normal course of business for the IRS. But something's not normal when the normal course of business leaps by 79%. It's clear that an agenda is being pursued and we all know what it is. Some of us like it and some of don't but we ALL know what it is.

Of course they do, it's why they voted for him.

They believe big government is the best way to go, that government knows best.

You should probably say white charities because he doesn't have the balls to go after black charities.

He likely doesn't go after anything that openly supported his re-election.

LOL, "defrauding the government out of taxes". How can you defraud someone who's STEALING from you?

Can you "defraud" the Mafia out of the extortion money they fraudulently demand from you?

What do you have against Neal?

Or did you not know Geithner is gone?

For each of the past two years, the IRS has lost certified mail related to my asking for a time extension in filing a charity's annual 990 form. As a result of their error, they both times have sent me a letter with a 20% of income penalty. Both times these charges were dismissed because I and friends were more organized than the IRS.

They are trying to shake down charities who don't have political connections for easy cash with their threats. These aren't exactly audits, just threats from a bully desperate for cash to spend on its various addictions.

I honestly wonder if the OP reads anything other than Breitbart.

Here are all of the numbers if you want to make a rational judgement, hint, the numbers do show Obama has raised it, but they took the 2nd worst possible statistical measure to make their point , since the numbers rose gradually through Bush's term (the worst would have been a straight comparison between 2001 to 2011). FY year runs through October 1 of the year mentioned, it's about half way down. This also has the data to compare with other groups and how they have fared, another hint, individual audits are up by about the same percentage using the same methodology, maybe slightly less as are other groups.

Interesting, at least you admit that we had a tax cheat as Treasury Secretary. Rep to you

Pretty sure we're well past 2010 and 2011. Why isn't 2012 data included?

Oh, right: because the article is horse shit.

Here's the 2012 results that show that the number has fallen - and that the % has fallen two years in a row - and that either way, the number of charity org audits being performed has BARELY PASSED 1% of those sent in. Witch hunt!

Stupid.

Actually, they are often witch hunts. I worked for a conservative lobbying organization which had a large fundraising event audited every year without a problem until Corzine became governor and had the interpretation of a law, much to the embarrassment of the auditor, changed to make it much harder for us to raise funds. The percentage of audits doesn't matter, the intent does.

I don't think it was an accident either that the IRS sent the above mentioned (see earlier post) organization nasty stupid letters two years in a row when its President works in the Christie administration.

The linked article does make its points regardless of the percentages. I've worked in charities for over 10 years. Government likes control and is particularly hard on charities which inspire grassroots efforts. I worked for one charity that was shaking up the foster care system in NJ with a large local grassroots effort. A judge shut it down because the building it operated in was too big for children. I wish I was making this up.
