Sometime early third quarter CK runs out of bounds and the clock continued to run off almost a minute. Nobody seems to have saw it or said anything about it. Did anyone else notice this? Totally bizarre that I can't find a mention on anyone's recap or a news story about it. Am I crazy?

Clock is supposed to run once the ball is set. So they may have been cheated out of a few seconds from the time he went out of bounds until the ball was set, but not a big deal compared to some other majorly blown calls like the holding at the end. Now bear in mind they do start stopping the clock on out of bound plays in the last 5 minutes of the half.

I saw it as well and don't understand it. Maybe the tv screen clock shown was not the official clock that the refs used.

How about CK and the 49ers running an illegal formation on the first play of the game? Lost half a minute or so plus big yardage and field position. Could have used that time at the end. But sometimes I guess you just have to hope that the refs won't notice what you're doing.

Clock doesnt stay stopped on out of bounds plays anymore. Only in the final minutes.

Really? Didn't know that. What about the end of the half?

Yeah its a fairly recent rule (2010 maybe) Clock stays stopped ONLY for final 2 minutes of the 1st half and final 5 minutes of the game.

With the exception of the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half, the game clock will be restarted following ....a kickoff return, a player going out of bounds on a play from scrimmage, or after declined penalties when appropriate on the referee’s signal. http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/timing

Is this true for college too? Someone told me it was.

Is this true for college too? Someone told me it was.yes...not sure if its 2 minutes or 5 minutes.

This rule was instituted a while back to speed up games. Blame TV for that one.
