was working on a project in Orlando today and decided to head up to gainesville for the game early....
good buzz about the game w/ ole miss
talk about the gator defense fills the radio waves. heck, even among the gator fans in our orlando office today - there's a buzz about this year's team! from my vantage point, gator nation is giddy about gator basketball and the defense! good to see/hear!
as vettel said on his radio show today - he expects gator fans to be more excited about the gator basketball game than upcoming the super bowl.
went to my first ever gator swimming [& diving] meet tonight vs vols. standing room only crowd! gets noisy in there [i remember that from the frat intramural meets]. tomorrow: women's tennis and the men's basketball game vs olemiss. also, plan to go by the MAC to catch some baseball practice. then, sunday: mens tennis and the women's hoops game vs bama.
full weekend!

Wife asked me if we were going to watch the Superbowl and I asked her who was playing. She wanted to know if I was kidding and my answer was "Only a little."

Sold out. Structural engineers are evaluating whether the O'Dome can withstand the seismic pressure from 13,000 SRO screaming fans anticipating another Gator massacre of an overmatched SEC team. It is the closest thing to a sanctioned azz whooping Gator fans in Gainesville have had the opportunity to witness in person since . . . . the last four games played in the O'Dome. Get your tickets early for future home games. They should be selling out fast. Gainesville is fast becoming this season's epicenter of college basketball.
Go Gators !! stay focused ...

My family, plus our parents are driving up from Tampa today, and staying the night. We are taking our 3 year old to his first Gator game for his birthday.

good stuff!
the atmosphere for the missouri game was off the charts. i tell ya, the live game experience in the o'dome is begining to rival gator football. i think the rowdies have alot more fun at games - just nonstop cheering etc. maybe gator football needs a named - standing only / cheering only - student section too. Rowdies are special.

Why can't the reptiles be rowdy in both places? Why does it have to be a different name? They need to expand the student section at The Swamp, and make the same effort for Football as they have for bball this year, with marketing and extra student tickets etc.

he might enjoy the gator women's game on sunday too! :) you can get front row seats for that game!
gators are something like 17+ pt favorites in this game w/ the rebels! that's a wild amount; but the gator defense is becoming the talk of the town and everyone wants to see them in action!

i don't mind different names...e.g. for baseball they are the 'bleacher creatures', i believe. that's okay. just like them to have the same intensity for the games.
picked up a handout about the rowdies at the swim meet last night and was reading how they collect points for different events - trying to target all the other gator sports - and they get some free giveways for accumulating some points and can win some major prizes too. if every sport had a rowdies group as intense as they are for men's basketball, we'd have a major home-field/home-court advantage for every sport!

I hope people don't get to the point of expecting massacres and being disappointed with a mere win.

Agree. The expectation is for Billy to have the Gators play to their highest level regardless of the quality of the opponent.
If the Gators play a tough opponent, then a hard fought close victory should be celebrated with same zeal as the games in which they've dominated over lesser opponents. Unfortunately, the SEC is down this year and the Gators have to push themselves to play at a high level rather than slack off and play down to the level of the competition. These crushing victories are essential over lesser opponents in order to prepare for tournament time when the opponents will eventually be much better quality than the SEC has offered to date. Even the #16 Ole Miss Rebels will not be as good a competiton as they could have been with the loss of two key players.

I hope it is. But I will be happy with another win regardless of margin. I am more pleased with the teamwork and hustle than with margin of victory. Those will be more crucial down the stretch and at tournament time.
Don't get me wrong. I love the blowouts, especially against a good team. But it can't always happen.

I want to see another team bring a lot of full court pressure. Although we look to be doing better I still think we need some more exposure in game situation.

Our two areas of needs are controlling turnovers and free throws. I would be happy to see improvement there.

Basketball should always have a better, rowdier atmosphere than football. Things are so much more intimate. When you're sitting in those courtside seats, whatever you say, the players and coaches can hear. You don't get that in football.

Refs, too.
Gerald Boudreaux was calling a game in the O'Dome and during a time out he was obviously checking out the Dazzlers performing on the court. I yelled at him to watch the game that closely.
His reaction was priceless.
I am more excited about watching the UF v Mizzoury replay again than the Super Bowl.

That's why people hated playing the Gator's in Alligator Alley. Fans were right on top of the opposing team. When ODome first opened I thought, there goes the atmosphere. But the Rowdies have definitely transformed the environment.

they should consider rehabbing the old alligator alley and having the women play there. isn't that what kentucky does w/ their old/historic memorial hall? upgrade the facilities in some respects - lockerroom comforts, restroom facilities, lighting, etc, but the historic structure and layout and seating would be neat to attend the game in.

Good thought, but the second level at Alligator Alley has been converted to classrooms. I have taught in them and they are terrible classrooms!
