View Full Version : Need Help buying an Office Chair

I am a CPA who leads a somewhat sedentary lifestyle. My Orlando firm has been together for almost 20 years. My office chair is the one from inception and I have been seeing a chiropractor for 2+ months for lower back trouble (pinched nerve) showing much improvement. X Rays reveal that with the right chair, right exercise, periodic alignments, etc., I should be fine in a few months with only semi-monthly or so appointments with the doc.

The Dr is a very good one, in an out in 20 minutes, no waiting, $40 a visit. I sent my daughter to him for her ongoing migraine headaches. No migranes in over a month for her since beginning treatment. My daughter is a very good looking young woman, UF grad with a very good job, married though. Immediately after her first visit, she called me, her first words were "Dad, you didn't tell me he is about my age and is very good looking!.

My question after laying the ground work . . . . I need a new office chair. I am not looking for an overstuffed leather chair with the high backs that lawyers feel self important in. I want something like a Herman Miller that is very comfortable, adjustable in the neighborhood of $500-$600 or so dollars.

Can anyone suggest a less expensive chair that is as good as a Herman Miller and where I can find them. please provide model numbers or names. Also, are there any features that you would recommend and also an outlet and/or retailer.?

Sorry for the voluminous post but I can't seem to get it out in a few sentences. PM me if you have a few days and would like to hear my life story.

Thanks,

Mike

The last time I was asked by a family member, I directed them to this website. It gives you some tips on sitting, causes of pain, and what kind of office chair to buy. There are several links as well as a video. Not sure on a specific chair to recommend though. That is a personal choice similar to buying a mattress.

I'm in same situation, and like a Laz-E-Boy. Not too expensive, but good lower back support etc. Frankly, I also replace every 5 years to avoid the issues you identified.

Here is a picture on mine. Not saying it will help your back but is orange and blue with the Gator on it. You can't have everything you know.

I OWNED AN OFFICE SUPPLY CO FOR 21 YEARS (independent). YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH A PRODUCT FROM HON. GOOD QUALITY AND NOT OVER PRICED! DO NOT GO TO BOX STORES AS THEY ONLY CARRY BOTTOM END PRODUCTS.

My favorite was always the Steelcase Sensor II (or III?), but they don't make it anymore...
