Another CBS poll, this time of 20 coaches and scouts over which of the senior classes' top 11 players were most likely to be "busts"
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/21626254/recruiting-rodeo-which-elite-prospects-are-most-likely-to-be-busts
The top four vote getters were Chris Walker, Noah Vonleh, and the Harrison twins. The only players who didn't get a single vote were Andrew Wiggins and Aaron Gordon.
Others: The only players not to garner a mention at all were Wiggins and Gordon. Some questioned Young's attitude and mindset; others brought up the low ceiling of Johnson; Parker's athleticism was questioned; and Randle and Hill both received mentions.
I just post this for discussion's sake, not because I put much stock in it.

Funny because I put tremendous stock in the Harrison twins votes but almost none in walker's.
I mention this not for discussion sake but as absolute fact.

I see where they're coming from on Walker. I think there are several question marks, from his attitude to his level of competition to his effort.
I will say only this. You cannot teach his athleticism and length and Billy does not accept poor practice habits or laziness.
I often wonder what the point of articles like this are. I'm not criticizing the post at all, don't misunderstand. I guess I just don't think it's fair to guys who haven't even stepped on a college court to label them a potential bust.
I'm not sure how anyone could watch Julius Randle play and think that kid is going to be a bust. I'm surprised he got any votes. IMO, he is the best player in the class, even with Wiggins and Parker ranked ahead. Just one guy's opinion.

I see where they are coming from in voting for him, he may be James White 2.0. Since all I ever see of him are dunks, it's hard to judge how good of a player he is.

I've always thought Kasey Hill is going to be a sure-fire superstar while Walker might not be the instant impact player we all hope he is. He eventually can be as good as he wants to be but right now he's getting by on dunking on HS kids 5-6 inches shorter than him. But his potential is off the charts. Not sure if he can fulfill it at Florida especially since he's already made the declaration that he's going to be a one and done player.

Really though, whether the results are accurate or not, this is probably good medicine for anyone who was listed. Should only motivate them to prove the poll wrong.

The one thing I don't like about this site is that it won't let me rep myself...

Correct. You will likely be wrong unless you agree with me but hey that's life on and off the board.

The point is to evoke fan discussion and call attention to themselves.
I can guarantee that if you say to any 20 people who know "something" about high school basketball prospects: "OK - here are the 11 highest rated players, which do "You think" might not do well?"
That you are bound to have from a few (like 4) to several, like 8, who will receive votes, simply because it is a Forced Choice (Ipsative) voting environment.
This has roughly the value of US News and World Reports Institutional Quality rating - in other words - it has little, if any value.

These guys have to crank out fresh stories and commentaries to keep site hits up. When they run out of ideas about legitimate stories, they then begin to make up crap and stir the pot.

A northwest panhandle guy. I bet he comes in and lights it up when blowing by other forwards he will be playing. Can't stop someone who is fast and athletic. Only bump them and get fouls. Chris is the real deal, book it. I like he has attitude and plays well with Kasey Hill. SEC Beware. The Gators are coming!
I will be the first to say he will take it the length of the court on a steal and provide a little showtime, Windmill dunk. At that point teams will say, who do we put on him. He needs a little more muscle over the summer and acclimated to Billy Ball. With Kasey and SW at the point, he would have to be on the bench to not provide some highlights.
I hope Devon Walker works like a madman getting a lot of muscle on him, he has some quicks, hops and shots. I hope Billy lets Dillman put him through the program to get him ready for physical play from the tough teams we play. With the sophmore jump, we could use him on the wing. Maybe even grow another inch or two would be a nice surpise.
I hate to look forward when we are in the middle of a great season. Florda Basketball is one to watch, I know all you Kentucky guys on here must be closet Gator fans. That's alright, the nation knows Billy Ball.

Does the author realize the twins are actually 2 different people? He said "here are the top three vote-getters" and then lists 2 people followed by the Harrison twins.

When is the last recruit that Billy had here that he didn't turn into a hard worker?
Walker might not work hard but he'll certainly ride the bench. With Harris and Finney-Smith, Walker is far from guaranteed anything once he gets here.
I'd bet Billy gets that motor pretty high. He has the body to be a guy that can run up and down the court and beat guys.

Count me among those who are a little concerned about Walker. Not because of any talent deficiencies, but more because of the way he talks about what he expects to happen once he arrives. The "1 & Done" and "shock the world" talk makes me question if he understands who he signed up to play for. I don't question his talent, but to even get the opportunity to showcase his talent he will have to buy in to team first concepts and leave all the rest of that stuff at the door. If he doesn't I could see him being a major distraction for our team next year. Hopefully he is watching our team play this year and realizes that dunking on someone is way down the list of things you need to do in order to earn Billy's trust. Plus, there is no guarantee that Patric is going to leave. It's very possible that he leaves, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities that he decides to stay. If that happens then Walker is going to have to come off the bench. Will his ego allow that? I'm not sure.

Marreese Speights, not known as a particularly hardworker, didn't reach his potential here and hasn't even come close to reaching it in the NBA to this point. But he's one of the few. Not to say I don't like Speights because I do. He's a true Gator.
Speights didn't have the competition Walker will have though. He was basically alone in an undersized frontcourt with a freshman Alex Tyus. Yeguete will also be back next year and Young could very well be also. So he'll have to bring it every day or he won't see the court very much.
For that reason, I really don't see a lot of room for him to be a bust. It might take longer than some think though.

He's going to be really challenged from the minute he steps onto campus. I hope he knows that.
One of the many things I like about Billy is that he never tells recruits that its going to be easy. He tells them quite the opposite.
I'm sure that has cost him a big time recruit from time to time, but I'll take that any day over the alternative.

I do agree the Walker off the bench next year is a possibility and it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to that. Still most analysists would in most years pick the most athletic big like Walker as a likely top overall pick after one year.

The only recruits it will cost you are the ones you don't want in the first place.
The kind of top recruits (or any level) that you want are the ones that will be turned off by pandering and promising. Coaches still doing that are either desperate or behind the times. I believe a lot of current coaches fall into this category.
Insti - there are plenty of cases of kids being high draft picks after limited exposure/not starting. Marvin Williams made sense. Daniel Orton didn't.

NBA still values the potential over actual skill set or fundamentals.
If walker doesn't start but comes in and makes sportscenter top plays every other week he'll be a lottery pick guaranteed.

Why would Donovan let him train with the football strength coach, not the basketball strength coach?
