Beal still does not shoot like Frazier. Just sweet for a freshman.

Beal
Beal shot pretty poorly from 3 as a Gator. 33.9% for his career.
Frazier is currently shooting 41.8% from three.

I can say this about him. If you want to have someone on the floor late in the game when the other team is fouling he would be a good choice. Right now his free throw percentage stands at 94%.

ERVING WALKER, how fast a great Gator that was named to FR ALL SEC team is forgotten by some.

Frazier's 3 point shooting is easily the most noticeable aspect of his game...but he's quietly improved on multiple levels: his defense, rebounding, passing, and understanding of his role in our system.
Very impressed with him thus far--and a great option to have off the bench this year to spell some of our starters for a few minutes. I suspect he's going to be invaluable come tournament time given the heavy minutes our starters could potentially be logging.

He asked who the last one was which would be Walker. Both Nelson and Walker shot better as FR than Frazier to date. However, hasn't the 3pt line been moved back since Nelson played in '99?

I wouldn't say 33.9% is shooting "poorly". Although he was billed as a much better shooter than that, it seemed like he took time to adjust. I think he was shooting poorly early in the season (somewhere in the %20's). and his % slowly rose throughout the year. Later in the year he was probably averaging out closer to 40% which is more what you would expect from a very good 3 pt shooter in college.
He's shooting 35.9% at the NBA distance

Well here are a few to consider:
1. In 1999-00 Nelson shot 43.4 from the arc on 113 attempts.
2. In 2002-03 Walsh shot 43.2 from the arc on 139 attempts.
3. In 2003-04 Humphrey shot 43.9 from the arc on 57 attempts.
4. In 2007-08 Lucas shot 43.5 from the arc on 85 attempts.
5. In 2007-08 Adam Allen shot 42.1 from the arc on 76 attempts.
For perspective Frazier has shot 57 threes so far this year.

Actually the OP didn't single out strictly shots from the arc. When you consider that Beal shot 33.9 from 3 and overall 44.5 while playing 34 min pg he was pretty darn good as a FR.
Oh heck, enough, Bradley Beal best overall FR player imo when considering everything he did. That's why he collected big $$$$.

Great! So, Walker's percentage was 42%-plus as a freshman? That's pretty good...as are all the ones on InstiGATOR1's list. I was just going off the top of my head and didn't mean to offend Walker.
I wouldn't have guessed that Walsh had shot that high a percentage as a freshman, although he was pretty advanced overall as an offensive player from the get-go.

Yeah, my bad on Walker, I check just about everyone who might make the list, but forgot he shot at such a good percentage as a Frosh. So E. Walker was the last to shoot at Frazier's level from the arc as a Frosh.

Mike Miller also shot very well as a Frosh, although perhaps not above .40 from 3. But Miller had the entire game.
Among those Insti listed, all shot well, but not all had the Complete Game. Those who did included:
Miller, Walsh, Nelson (opponents figured out how to shut him off by his Junior year), and Frazier all were pretty complete very quickly.
Lucas, Humphrey and Allen weren't quite at the same level all around.

I love his timing on the makes as well. They really seem to be when we need one (well, we need them all :) ) or ones that just ignite the crowd. He also seems to really be evolving his game to an all around game too. I don't know how many boards he had last night, but he had 7 against Miss St. His D is really coming on. I am really starting to like his game. He's going to be a good one no doubt

Agreed we lose Rosario and Boynton next year so it is great to see Frazier is a guy who should step right in- a backcourt of Hill, Frazier and Scotty and we shouldn't miss a beat!

The thread was a bit rhetorical and was posted just before falling asleep after watching the game on the computer. I had just watched a couple of highlights and noted that his shots barely even touch net.....but, it was interesting to see just how well many of our freshman have shot the ball and that it is not always an indicator of future stardom. Time will tell I guess

75 footers I give the edge to Parsons.
And to the OP...no doubt on MF2
Coach Burno told me before the season that he was THE MAN.
Said he excelled at not just shooting, but coming flying off picks, squaring, and shooting with the exact same form and silkiness as when he's warming up.
Said we got a major league player.

nice to go thru memory lane, though. i like the re-education too.
loved everything beal brought to the game, and frazier is certainly approaching that w/ this effort off the glass as well as 3 pt shooting, and he's getting some nice assists too. his defense is blending in w/ the rest of the gators.

I agree this thread has provided some education, particularly to those like me with short and unreliable memories. I remembered more the players like Beal and maybe Boynton and a host of others whose outside shooting seemed to suffer a bit as they made the transition from high school to college. But, probably because it disappointed me, I keenly remember how well Knight shot the threes as a freshman for UK :ill:
It was good to see the stats on all the Gator freshmen that did shoot well "from downtown" in their first year on campus. Fond memories for all!
I agree that Miller and Beal were our best freshmen under Donovan - and maybe ever. But, Frazier is shooting the rock (apologize for the Vitale expression) superbly for a freshman. If he keeps getting wide open looks the rest of the season, I could see him getting that percentage up quite a bit higher!!!!
Now I'm a little curious what Roberson's percentage was as a freshman. Hmmmm...
