Yeah hard to know who to pull for in this one.
This is a huge week for UK. They are at UMs and at aTm. If they want to be on the good side of the bubble they need at least one of these.

This is going to be a hard game for us to win, but I hope we do. I expect them to wear their red jerseys, have Morgan Freeman do the pre game speech and make the atmosphere tough as hell for us.
Im interested to find out if UK has learned anything on the journey thus far. I expect Ole Miss to play A ball, so we are going to have to match them step for step. Usually I have a gut feeling, well with this team you just never know. Will Alex show up? Will Archie pass? Will Harrow score? Will Witjer not be a puss? Will Noel get two quick fouls? Will WCS play? Too many question marks for my taste!

Being dispassionate I would root for what is in the best interests of the team this year. We have two games against UK and one against Ole Miss at home. I think that UK winning this one gives the Gators the greatest "quality" on the 2013 NCAA resume if (and it is a BIG if) they win the three games against Ole Miss and UK in that scenario.
Then again taking the multi-season view of what is best for UF I hope that Ole Miss kills UK ...
and UK fails to make the NCAAs ...
and loses to a mid-major at Rupp in the first round of the NIT.

I'd like to see the SEC get four bids this year and a win would help UK immensely in that regard. I'd rather see them get a quality win against punkboy than us.

I don't have a good feeling about tonight but it will be an interesting game one way or another. Definitely wish it was at home rather than on the road - not that we've played great at home but need all the help we can get.
I think it'd be in Florida's best interest (if we're min/maxing here) to pull for UK. Besides the fact that I think its in everyones best interest to pull for UK all the time, Kentucky is right on the verge of becoming two meaningless wins for Florida. I don't think the gap between the teams is so close that Kentucky improving makes for "pick'em" games when the teams match up. Really though, at this point its not like UK is going to finish as a powerhouse that could be great, great quality wins for you guys. It probably doesn't make a huge difference either way.
To win tonight, UK will have to go into a tough environment and have the bigger balls than the other team. We only have two guys who play like this (Noel and Goodwin) and Goodwin has a tendency to play in a way that negates his confident attitude.

Thanks for this thread. With the job in full gear, I'm out of the NCAA loop, other than the Gators. UK is physically gifted, but green in the gills. Ole Miss doesn't scare me at all. Right now it's 6-4 UK after 3:40 of play. We play our game and destroy both of these teams.
Henderson has exactly two FTs and nothing else so far. They need him to have a big night to compete with UK.

I don't agree. If Miss wins here and we crush them and then they go ahead and do well the rest of the SEC season then that win looks great. Their remaining schedule isn't daunting (none are in the SEC).
I see UK dropping a few games unless they figure it out soon which hopefully includes two L's to us.
Basically Miss has a better chance of ending the regular season in higher regard than UK does IMO so they are who we want to win here as I don't see the potential UK wins being as valuable.

A little more on what I posted about Ole Miss taking 44 shots in the 1st half. I just checked what the average amount of shots taken per game by our opponents in SEC play. It sits at 46.8 shots per game. Since Henderson relies on a high volume of shots I think he is going to get frustrated and there is a good chance he could start jacking up more than he does now. No doubt he is good at hitting some of those off-balance shots but I don't think he is going to be a happy camper come Saturday.

HIs shooting percentage was not very good as he went 4-14 but he did a good job of drawing fouls and got 7 of his points from the charity stripe. The kid is a gamer no doubt about that.

I don't see how you can say that after this. They practically collapsed and gave up a 16-0 run. Ole Miss isn't even that good. While we were beating SEC teams by 26+ PPG, they were scraping by on 1 or 2 point wins against average conference teams. They play average defense at best also.
Ole Miss is a decent team, UK is okay, but really young. Not sure how giving up a 16-0 run to a team that has been scraping by below average conference teams now means they are going to win the SEC. They will be good, but it's awfully early to throw in the towel on UF.

I have long thought Andy Kennedy a poor tactical coach. It showed tonight. Wiltjer was defended... or not defended.... as if ole miss didn't know he could shoot the ball. I thought uk played well, and cal outclassed the ole miss staff.

Time will tell if this is the turning point for UK or just more of the bipolar season we've had so far. I honestly wasn't impressed with Ole Miss and, as a result, don't see this as being quite as telling when it comes to UK having turned the corner. Think Ole Miss is overrated.
Noel is better defensively than Davis was. Much better when it comes to assists and steals, a much better on the ball defender than Davis who prefered to block someone elses man. That being said, as many of you pointed out, Noel is nonexistant offensively. Gotta keep in mind that Davis had only been tall for a year or so when he got to UK. Noel has had more time to get used to playing D as a big man. However, Davis has the (to state the obvious) much higher ceiling athletically. Hall's comment about Noel being a fan favorite is right on. Whatever team lands him will love him. He's a great person too.
I think Murphy can stay on Wiltjer. Dont' see you guys having problems with him defensively.
You guys will dominate Ole Miss this weekend. They may come in pissed off, but I don't think it matters.

as fantastic as he was, most of Davis blocks were off help. I would always scream that the best way to neutralize ad, was to go right at him and make him guard the player in front of him. Not so with Noel. That kid is an astounding defender. I absolutely love watching him play.

I thought it was funny as hell Henderson with about minute left in the half was taking himself out of the game during a tv timeout and the coach for Ole Miss was screaming at his face to get his butt back in the game and you also say teammates coaxing him back into the game.

They may come in pissed off, but I don't think it matters.
lets not forget, you blew a 16 point lead to them as well. I think its a little premature to say that this is a "huge step forward" as jeff seems to think it is.

Well, REM you don't see it the way I do. Take your shots at Kyle; however, he has been the player of the SEC the last four game. Why do you think that Wiltjer is so damned weak when he is on a tear? Hell he is about 20 points a game lately. Who else has performed better in the SEC?
Henderson proved tonight that he is average against good competition; however, Kyle Wiltjer has had a good year against pretty good folks.
So why are you demeaning one of the players on your alledged team when he has been one of the best in the SEC the last two weeks?

Going on the road and beating a team which had not lost a game in the league by 13 points is a plus. Had Noel not got into foul trouble at the end it would have been a lot worse.

That is what made it even better. You get punched in the mouth and you kept fighting and they did it together as a team. No doubt in my mind this is a huge team win for Kentucky. Light bulbs went on but we will find if the bulbs only give light to one room or a house in a few days!

Uh oh, Bert is upset.
For the record... I didn't think rem was demeaning him, but saying that Murphy will be able to defend him. Murphy is a long, athletic player with similar skill sets. I think they will make each other work on both ends of the floor, and perhaps make it more difficult for one another to go off offensively.
Wiltjer had a great night, but good god... What was ole miss doing?? There were several possessions in which he was virtually unguarded. The kid doesn't miss. Put someone on him, Kennedy. I think there was a series early in the second half in which he got 4 consecutive open looks... And I think he made 3. That will not happen against Florida.
As I said... I think Kennedy sucks.
Anyway... I didn't read it as knock on Wiltjer, but I am sure rem can defend himself.
