Saw the movie. See in 3d..good visuals.
Observations...in a classic turn of events...
TOM CRUISE and KELLY MCGILLIS in TOP GUN ..ole Tom was such a terrific lover, KELLY felt obligated to admit she is gay. Scintillating love scenes...uh, no.

Now, on STAR TREK we have Spock and Uhura. Ole Zoe does her best but , sadly SPOCK has to admit he is invulnerable to her charms..and that he is gay.
Acting at it's finest.:whoa:

The use of the OMEGA 3 machine at the end to ambush KHAN was pure genius.
Interesting that ONE episode in the original STAR TREK spawned a movie and ...another movie .
Seems HOLLYWOOD just likes to recycle old storylines...Thanks for black holes....

We now know the real reason for black holes..they are there to save the writers. In the first movie , blowing up VULCAN and GIVING THE WRITERS carte Blanche to write anything they want was a big green light.
Freedom from having an original thought as well.
This time around we bring back KHAN. Great.
Notice the tribble in medical bay late in the film ? I did.
Here is a SPOILER ALERT for Star Trek III...
A GIANT PYRAMIDAL SHAPED OBJECT is home to the GROG, a race which assimilates all other races, uses prostheses like crazy and needs to use sunscreen.
They are coming to assimilate all gay cast members on THE ENTERPRISE. Looks like this will end the series for certain.lol:yes:

The first one was just all over the place IMO, got a little too silly at times, but my main problem is that the only premise Abrams could write a script around was time travel?

That's kind of like making another Superman movie with Lex Luther as the villain.

Really, it was a disappointing movie.

I might go see this one because you suggested it Princess, but honestly, I'm a real strong script/acting driven kind of movie-goer. If it's just mostly action-based, I'll walk away disappointed again.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes you go to see a movie for nothing but action, but that's what I'm expecting when I go in, just some fun, crazy mayhem, but overall, I like a movie with extremely strong, well-written characters who carry a movie more than the action and fancy sets.

That's what makes Batman Begins so good IMO.

GatorPrincess8

Into Darkness has action, but there is some real emotion in this one, I was crying. Though it could never top Batman Begins if you are comparing it to that.

I've seem all the original series episodes and movies and I appreciated the writers trying to appease those of us attached to the original characters in this new movie especially.

(I still take issue with new Spock's over-emotionality among a few other things but its an alternative plot line after all).

You think it makes sense that a Romulan ship would travel through time and sit motionless where it arrived for 25 years?

How about the fact that the Enterprise warped from Earth to Vulcan in 2 seconds, but the return trip takes long enough for Kirk to meet Old Spock, Kirk to meet Scotty, beam back to the ship and they somehow pass the Romulan ship undetected and wait to ambush it behind Saturn's rings?

GatorPrincess8

on the 25 years thing I got from it that they wait 25 years to get back at spock, but didn't wait in one spot and if you get the DVD the deleted scenes speak to this. As for the other that is a plot hole, but I still enjoyed the film.

They didn't really explain where the Romulan ship went after the initial encounter with Kirk's dad's ship.

I took the differences in journey time to and from Vulcan as them just moving things along so as not to bore us on the trip there. Obviously it must've taken longer but what's the point of showing that?

That makes them plot holes.

If the Romulan was so pissed about losing his home world, he could have gone there and hung out once he arrived in the past. It would have been difficult to hide a ship that big for 25 years. Also, mining ships from Picard's era wouldn't be 3 times the size of Constitution class ships.

And why would the entire fleet be in the Rigel Sector forcing the use of the trainees? If they were all there, it would be for something as big as a Borg attack, and they'd need the new ships too.

or maybe he jumped back or couldn't stay all that long that time or whatever. I'm not going to go nuts thinking about all the possibilities and paradoxes of time travel.

As one who has a lot of trouble suspending disbelief such that I end up hating a lot of flicks others like, I can live with this.

It would have been difficult to hide a ship that big for 25 years. Also, mining ships from Picard's era wouldn't be 3 times the size of Constitution class ships.

It would be easy to hide any ship in space....if they even stayed there and didn't jump back.

As far as size...it would depend on what that ship was intended to do as far as mining goes. If it was to go far away and mine and haul all the crap that it mined back then I could see it being really big.

And why would the entire fleet be in the Rigel Sector forcing the use of the trainees? If they were all there, it would be for something as big as a Borg attack, and they'd need the new ships too.

I took it as they used everybody that was available because it was an emergency that came without warning. Obviously they would not have been able to gather the whole fleet for that. Next I'm not sure they were all trainees. It might have just been that they were shorthanded and pressed the trainees into service to supplement the personnel they had at hand. Obviously a rescue mission for a planet and possibly an evacuation is a huge undertaking.

Yeah, I was. It bothered me a lot more that they brought in so many Star Wars elements even more than plot problems.

I've watched 'em all. If there is another one, I hope its like DS9 which had the whole Dominion War and was less infected with political correctness until the very end (ie they were willing to get their hands dirty....as of course anybody would be in a huge war like that - instead of just endlessly spouting lofty principles while people were dying). I would hope it would not be like Star Trek Voyager which was infected with political correctness throughout.

There usually aren't that many characters. It's just the Doctor and a companion or two. He has some recurring villains like the Daleks who are his Klingons.

The companion(s) and the actor playing the Doctor change every few years. Find the beginning of the 2010 story lines with Matt Smith as the Doc and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. BBC America has them running all the time.

Pretty sure the Romulan mining vessel was referenced having moved around in Star Trek.

IIRC it was referenced having gone into Klingon space and attacking the Klingons and killing 49 Birds of Prey - you know, the message that Uhura intercepted which allowed Kirk to get Pike to put the shields up before they reached Vulcan.
