January 1, 1996. Sugar Bowl - New Orleans, Louisiana.
Florida 18 Missouri 20

Gators started off slow and conservative under Coach Ray Graves, not unusual. Missouri was more aggressive. Near the end of the 3rd Qtr Gators found themselves down 20-0. Our junior QB, Steve Spurrier, couldn't stand it. Graves finally turned him loose to do his thing. "Pass the damn ball"! SOS took the Gators down the field and got a Gator TD! No O.T. back in those days so Graves decided to go for 2. Didn't work. Gators are down 20-6. Time for "We are the Boys". 4th Qtr is underway. Missouri tries to slow the pace of the game down and run the clock. Gators finally get the ball back. SOS takes the Gators down the field. Another TD! Go for 2 again. Didn't happen. Now the Gators are down 20-12. Later in the 4th Qtr Gators get the ball again. SOS again leads the Gators down the field. TD Gators! No choice now, have to go for 2. Again, didn't work. Gators down 20-18 and the game ends with that score. IF only we would have kicked the extra point after each TD, UF would have won 21-20! Steve Spurrier was MVP Of the game even though the Gators were the losing team!
