it seems that the State had to borrow more money from the Feds to cover the extension your prez added to unemployment last year and failed to meet the deadline to pay it back so all business owners were assessed and additional amount for Futa to cover the loan :no::no:

You're way over their heads, bill. Unless someone actually owns a business, they have no idea what you're talking about.
For our rational brothers, the money we pay to the Federal Government every year for unemployment is based on a formula. The less intelligent on here think that workers pay for unemployment, THEY DO NOT. If you look at your paycheck details, there is never a deduction for Unemployment, neither State nor Federal. Your boss pays that to each level of government, and the bills are separate and costly, comes right out of your boss' profits. This year, because Florida is one of those states (19 total) that has to borrow money from the Feds to pay the Fed mandated extension, the Feds then charge each emplyer in the state double their federal rate. So when people like Bill and I pay our yearly Federal unemployment tax this year, our accounting software will say $500, but the IRS actually sends us a bill for $1000.
To our liberal friends, it would be like expecting your Obama-provided cell phone to be free, but then actually getting a bill for it. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you want to riot.

Bill it is not unemployment anymore...
It is "reemployment"...
I spent an extra 5 minutes trying to find where to file a few weeks ago and finally noticed after "reemployment" they had formerly "unemployment"...

While this is true in Florida, it is not in every state. I believe that certain states like New Jersey for instance do assess an unemployment tax each pay period on wage earners.

less money for raises and higher prices for customers so people can live off of others.
good friend owns a major site and roadway construction company in Collier County. 100 plus employees. they are constantly looking for quailified, experienced people to work for them starting at $14 per hour and making up to $30 per hour, plus health, dental, and life insurance, 401k match, and paid vacation. Overtime usually available for those that want it. They offfer jobs and are told the jobs aren't wanted, just a check on the form that says they applied. People are just too lazy to work as long as they can get by not working. Three years toforce evictions combined with side work and unemployment and many are satisfied riding the pine.
the extensions have to end. they only encourage unemployment and an underground economy.

Unemployment in Florida makes out at about $275 a week. Not that many can afford to be "satisfied riding the pine" at that rate unless they already live under a bridge.

I was one of those 53% of people. I was out of work for longer than 6 months. The unemployment didn't even cover my mortgage/maintenance.

You have a right to be bothered by anything you want. I would be bothered by those things too.
My original comment was mainly a joke, but I do think that if you aren't happy with the way things are going, then you should do something about it.
I understand that billie can't afford to take the tax hits the way that Mickelson can and him complaining isn't the same.
I don't agree with him about unemployment. There are lots of people that need it to survive and even with it, they are struggling. Not everyone is trying to scam you and/or the gov't. Most companies/business have the upper hand when it comes to the employer/employee relationship. Having been screwed over by companies multiple times myself, I don't have as much sympathy for them as I do for the individual worker.
People buy businesses to make money. If the rules don't work for them, they can do something else. Same as the decision most workers have to make.

Benefits are things as you define them but Unemployment is forced on every employer so there is no benefit to attracting employees based on it.
Now health insurance, matching 401K etc etc are ways to attract better labor...

In fact the employer who has to lay someone off would be at a disadvantage to their competitors if they were able to get back on their feet quickly and get in the position to hire again thanks to unemployment insurance. They will have a higher cost of hiring an employee compared to someone who has gone ten quarters with no claims against them for unemployment (Florida)...

Benefit to the employee, cost of doing business for the employer.
There are laws to running a business/company. Unemployment isn't new. Owning/running a business is an investment. It involves risk. If the risk becomes not worth the reward, then you find something else.

But this is what you said...
It's called a benefit. Companies offer them to make it more attractive for people to want to work there.
And that is not correct for unemployment insurance. It is a benefit to the employee but it is a burden to all employers. No employer becomes more attractive because of unemployment now reemployment.

You do understand that every government tax, mandate, report, regulation has a cost attached to it that is paid by the CUSTOMER of the business. The business has to collect and remit it to the government, but the CUSTOMER pays.

"Unemployment tax", whether at the state or federal level, is NOT a "benefit". I don't "offer" it, I am raped by your government and forced to pay it. There's no "negotiation". There's a rate and a notice you receive in the mail. Don't pay it, go to jail. That's NOT a benefit.

Knowing I have to pay unemployment is one thing, which can easily be accounted for, and as you said, expected by the business owner. But we are talking about an extra bill thanks to the state of Florida not paying the big govt back on its unemployment loan. This was an unexpected unemployment bill, passed on to biz owners, and thus not really the same thing.

1. I married my wife when she was 19, and I was 22. We have been married for 46 years.
2. Three months after getting married, I joined the Air Force during the war in Nam.
3. When I left the military, we had two children - one and three years old, respectively.
4. I went through law school in 9 straight quarters, because I needed to support my family. My wife cleaned apartments and kept other people's kids to help our family.
5. When I graduated from law school, we had two young kids, $500.00 and an old beat up VW. We had nothing else.
6. We put 3 children though college without getting a loan or asking anyone for help.
7. We help one of our grandchildren, who is severely autistic.
8. I have worked about ten hours a day for the past 38 years [not including 4 years in the Air Force, putting on tile roofs in the summer and working on a survey party during the summer].
9. At 68, I am still working about 10 hours a day.
10. We live well, but are not rich. We live well because I have worked my ass off for the past 38 years (not including military service and working in college and law school).
11. I pay for our medical care, and have not taken one cent from SS or Medicare, despite having paid a great deal of money into both for the past 49 years.
12. I don't expect or want anyone to give me 5 cents.
13. We give to various charities every year.
I have learned a great deal over the years. One of those things is that success is virtually always based on working extremely hard.
Another thingI learned is that nothing is more important that your family.
I've also learned that it is best not to demean and insult people about whom you know nothing whatsoever.
Only a fool expects their children and grandchildren to pay $20 trillion dollars because we are too selfish to stop spending. In every generation, people have wanted their children to live better than they did. Our out of control spending will insure that our children will not live as well as we do.
"Time waits for no man."

No joking, I feel honored to be your countryman. Great success story and REPPED.

It doesn't really matter what I think about it, but I have already told you that I think the employer should pay.
The people that own a business think they shouldn't pay and anyone who might benefit from it will think the employer should pay.
So you are all for the freedom of finding a new job but an emoployer should not have the freedom to offer the benefits they want?
I am just trying to wrap my head around he fact you seemed to be acknowledging freedom is better but in the end you are for forcing people to benefit you.
***as we have shown unemployment is not currently a benefit option for an employer

I am one of those "older white males." With regard to your condescending and rather arrogant post, I have the following comments:

Dean, you sound very much like me. Very similar story. Most of what made this country great was accomplished by what are now "old white males". This country is free because of us old white males and the ones that came before us. In fact, it is is so free that ignorant, morons who have never succeeded at anything can run off at the mouth. Perhaps this wet behind the ears, know nothing can tell us about another group of Americans who have done more than the old white males for this country. It darn sure isn't his group.

Always sucks when your expenses go up or your income goes down, however can't help but point out that Florida has some of the lowest unemployment benefits in the nation. And in recent years they have gotten a lot tougher to obtain, which probably makes most posters here happy. Nobody is getting rich living on unemployment comp in this state. Hopefully, none of you are ever in that situation .

Fixed it for you.
Maybe this is what we shouldn't cry a river for, see what I mean?
Again, no disrespect intended, I won't point these things out if you quit dissing those hard working small businessmen that make jobs possible for all of us.
I had enough money because I saved it up for all of the years I was working. As I said before, my unemployment didn't even cover my mortgage.
I stand by everything that I said.
And if you are in business and a $1000 invoice, particularly one from the US Government, is not worth questioning, then I guarantee you won't be in business long.
You really have no idea why successful businessmen are successful or why rich people are rich, do you?
I am not saying that you shouldn't question it. I am saying that at this point there isn't anything you can do about it. If that is a reason for you to retire/sell the business, then I don't think it was right for you in the first place.
So you are all for the freedom of finding a new job but an emoployer should not have the freedom to offer the benefits they want?
I am just trying to wrap my head around he fact you seemed to be acknowledging freedom is better but in the end you are for forcing people to benefit you.

At this point I don't believe they should do away with the employer paying for unemployment. I don't see the reason for it. Again, it is the cost of doing business.
If nothing was in place and you asked me if I thought the employer should have a choice, then it might be a different discussion.
I see no reason to change the law right now.
I believe in freedom, but i certainly don't think all freedom is better.
I don't think absolutely about anything, with a few exceptions.

Poor you. Living in a land where the leader is "the other peoples president." You poor older white males have never had a chance in this oppressive state. I think they are after your guns next.
Yet another mischaracterization of "poor older white males." Perhaps I am unaware that "poor older white males" all have guns and no one else does.
I am of the opinion that all of the Constitutional Amendments are important and have survived for generations because they grant us certain freedoms
Perhaps "poor older white males" are also against free speech and freedom of religion. You left those out.
