Jeff (Dailydouble) texted me with the news a bit ago. 2014 PG from Florida.

He has always said UNC is his dream school but this was his first and only visit. Something tells me we still have a chance to flip him, especially with his relationship witg some of our current players and commits. Reminds me of the Austin Rivers deal but Berry isn't a diva like Rivers.

Anyone have any more insight?

need the o'dome to be rocking and packed to the rafters like it was vs mizzou. do that, not many programs can hold a candle to us. given BD, the 2 recent titles, the sun/warmth, the total sports program. major attractant, especially for the in-state talent.

And this guy is why it was so great to beat duke and UNC on our way to the title game in 2000. Not to mention back to back titles. Basketball is UNC's number one and yet in the last 15 years or so Florida is very much on par with them while also actually winning at an elite level in football as well.

Your "coach" accused our coach of cheating because we went in his backyard and pulled Mike Miller to Florida, so coming on here and telling us not to bad mouth your "coach" because he is honest to a fault is, quite frankly, the most appropriate way you could confirm that you and the UNC fan base will never fully understand what has and will continue to go on with your "scholar-athletes".

Gator fans don't have anything particular against UNC, tarheel, but as G8rguy points out, we have an old feud with your coach. Donovan of course has put it past him, but Williams' public comments regarding Billy's ethics in 2000 were quite unacceptable. To my knowledge, he's never publicly apologized either (though I think he did apologize directly to Billy).

Otherwise, UNC is ok with me. Elite program. Great history. I like Hansborough.

Sorry it doesn't work like that. He owed billy and tge entire program/fan base an apology and has only apologized to billy. Until he completes the other half he remains a scumbag. He damaged not only billy but the program and tried to bring down tge whole program. He also sent his peons (fogler) running to the NCAA.

Secondly, one can't forget that at the time he was throwing accusations at billy he himself was cheating at Ku. He got busted for it there but not before trying to throw some low level compliance officer under the bus.

Third, his horrendous behavior throwing that Presbyterian fan out and then trying to throw a security officer on the sword

I know it isn't likely to happen again anytime soon so I had to gloat a little. Got me ousted. The kid will undoubtedly have in his response somewhere the tradition and pedigree of Fl as deciding factors. FL will have a good program and does. but to say it is on UNC's level is not right. yes you have 2 national championships. So does unc in the past ten yrs. we also have 4 elite 8s and two final fours 4 regular and tourny championships 5 or six number one seeds in the tourney. so I would say no fl is not at the same level when you delve deeper into the stats and history. but that being said fl is a very good program and I really hope you get tyus jones. heck I hope you guys get randle. I have seen him play in person he is a beast took unc out because we will be so deep next yr with big men with meeks hicks johnson james and mcadoo someone would be the odd man out. I honestly think you guys are another big man away from another nat champ run. Randle fits that for you put him with young and you have one of the best 1-2 punches inside in the country. and def a top five preseason team as it stands. preseason top five should be ky how does cal get all that talent. wish there was an investigation on him. michigan if trey burke and co come back. unc.... matured talent and alot of very good new talent top center and 2nd best power forward pluas a very good pg Fl. thought you guys would get jabari hope young stays dook and kansas indiana will be in the mix as well. what do you think?

Again...your wrong. In the past 10 years we have the exact same resume.

Same number of elite 8's
Same number of Final Fours.
Same Number of National Titles.

The only thing UNC has is a longer history, which means nothing when comparing where the programs are today. Lets also mention that We are way better THIS season as well.

We will admit that our national presence only began in 1994. But a recruit was probably born in 1994 or later. 18 years old. Thats how old most freshman are. Here is what Florida basketball has done in their lifetime:

Florida since 1994:

2 National Championships.
3 National championship games.
4 Final Fours.
6 Elite 8's
7 sweet 16's
14 NCAA Tournaments
7 SEC Titles (combined)

...oh and there are no LOSING seasons on our resume. :laugh:

This is 2013. We are a top level program. With beautiful facilities and a hall of fame coach....who's still very young by the way.

i wouldn't expect to win recruits in football if UNC wins a couple of Nat'l championship titles then effectively matches what we do for the next half decade afterward - i'd count them as solid contenders/threats, especially if they had a hall-of-fame type coach. of course winning a couple of titles will put a coach in the HoF.

it's true, in terms of hoops history - prior to 1990, we don't have equal history. not even close. but the recruits today grew-up seeing Florida winning crystal and making runs in the ncaa's. we do need to improve in the area of fan following, i will concede. might be a matter of the economy, but we're not at the same level as UK, KU, UNC and a few others in that regard. we don't set up vacation around UF basketball like UK fans do. don't flock to the SEC-T on the 1st day like they do, etc. so in the recruiting battles for the very elite recruit, we do lose out.

Gators went to the elite 8 the last 2 years. i don't know how you would miss that fact unless you have a serious issue w/ extreme myopia.

btw, we know all about losing most of the team (following our back2back national titles, we basically had to start anew). you lose some continuity where senior players help to groom the newcomers etc.

i think you might be the first person to ever say/think our baseball facilities are superior - especially compare to our basketball facilities.

Two straight elite 8's with kenall and harrison barnes. Johm henson and tyler zeller say other wise. I dont remember seeing fl in any of those. Elite eights. Yes you do have a great basketball scool.now.butninhave been to gainsville and seen your facilities and while nice... they are not anything near ur football or even baseball facilities. Yes we are having a down yr but if u lost 4 playees to the 1st round of the nba draft all starters and your pg who probanly shouldnt have gone. You would probanly be in the same situation. Look at ky heck ucla is dtill trying to recover miami will lose their whole stsrting five and a lot of their bemch production... they are a very good team this yr... 7 seniors on rhat team. Sverage age is 23 unc had a hostory of telling kids if they r lottery picks to go. Tried to get hansbrough to go after his frshman and sophmore yr because he was projected as a lottery pick both yrs. First off, in 2001-2002, UNC went 8-20. Secondly, Florida was in the last two Elite Eights and minutes away from the Final Four in both. Our coach is better. Our facilities are better. I don't believe that you've ever seen our basketball facilities if you are questioning that. Do your research.

Sverage age is 23 unc had a hostory of telling kids if they r lottery picks to go. Tried to get hansbrough to go after his frshman and sophmore yr because he was projected as a lottery pick both yrs. Told lawson and ellington to go because they were both projected as lottery picks. With top talent comes high turnover its why I hate the 1 and done... the last trully grest teAM IN BBALL WAS THAT 09 UNC TEAM BEFORE THAT IT WAS THOSE TWO FL TEAMS. But college bball as a whole is down vecause the one and done...so yes unc is struggling this yr... but lets be honest u guys have the better team this yr. But the past 2 yrs werent even close . Unc would have beaten u both yrs.

Apparently you're not just forgetting Florida's last two elite eights but the "truly great" team that won it all last year as well.

This discussion of comparing programs is dumb. When people talk about all time great programs, they list UNC but don't list Florida. Its because history/fanbase and perception (as a basketball school) favor UNC right now (although their fanbase is overrated). However, Florida has been every bit as relevant recently and only has to keep this up to move up into the top group of basketball "powerhouses."

you really never know what the future holds - especially w/ the possibilities of 'one and dones' etc. so hill may come here and be gone in a year leaving a big void at point guard. i'd expect us to continue to recruit barry for that reason and step up the recruitment of others like lyle and jones. don't know if others emerge too during their senior year in h.s. at the various positions of potential need like point guard.

Yes this last decade Tar Heel basketball student/athletes have taken a lot of courses that have come into question as to whether they even showed up for class. I would like to see the school records for all the Men's basketball team during this last decade at UNC. To be the #1 school in Div 1 it seems that you have to cheat. Ya'll had to fire the two professors you knew had been helping the athletes so they wouldn't have to be grilled by grand jury. Feed up the football program to keep the #1 position. The country now has a little window knowledge of how ya'll have gotten to the top. You can only hope that this doesn't resurface, ya'll have tried to bury it as quickly as possible.

East Carolina let's anyone in with questionable grades, but know we know there are two institutions that have been condoning whatever it takes to get to the top. Two peas in a pod. LOL

to answer, and i'm no expert at all, probably the 11,413th person to ask about basketball recruiting on this board: i didn't think tyus jones had any interest in UF at this time. or we might be 4th or 5th on his list. but, again, i'm close to the last person to ask about this.

why would you get banned for answering. if there's dis-or mis-information, you correct it. you can do it w/out getting personal. but expect barbs to come a flying when you visit boards unless you are a complete suckup. if you aren't then expect barbs from those that want all vistors to kneel. it happens. all boards are that way. you have to learn to ignore and wade thru the posts.

@heelfan - This is an informed community here. We love rival posters who are the same, but you are clearly uninformed. Several of us live in the Carolina's. We have seen both schools facilities up close many times.

I'm still looking for you to explain how our facilities are "bad". A more appropriate question for you might be: How did a blue-blood like UNC let a "Football School" have BETTER BASKETBALL facilities than said blue-blood school?

Because, The only thing better about the Smith Center and its practice facilities is the seating capacity....and some dusty banners from the 1950's....other than that yours are not very nice by today's standards.

Lets also consider, Our coach could conceivably still be here 20 years from now. He in essence is our "Dean Smith"...and he is in his prime. With a hall of fame resume already. This program is only going up.

None of this is meant to rip Chapel Hill. It is gorgeous. Even you football stadium in the fall, with the pines, is a pretty little spot. I am friends with many Carolina grads and fans. My wife and our kids are all NC natives. I live in Wilmington and I love it.

But even that is opinion. I just posted you the facts earlier. We are the exact same in final fours, elite eights and National Titles over the past 10 years... I think we have a better winning percentage as well.

So that "ranking" is kinda silly. Its subjective, and probably biased against our "football school" status.

Why would you ever think a post like this would get banned? I see nothing wrong with it. One of the great things about GC is that we will listen and if a rival post here, we welcome their opinions. yep. alot of luck. and it's about the matchups in the ncaa's. we're actually bigger at guard this year than last and our perimeter guys can play some mean 'd'.

tenn is 'always' given us issues w/ their length and athleticism. they beat us even when we won the nat'l titles. it's almost become expected.
