View Full Version : In Case You Missed the Butler Ending

This is just another example of why college basketball can be so intense. After leading most of the game, Butler relinquished the lead to Gonzaga and appeared set to suffer a heart-breaking loss. With 5.6 seconds left, the Zags inbounder lofts a terrible pass into the hands of a Butler defender. The rest, as they say, is history (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sCIeYy9AhXk).

P.S. Did something happen to the embed feature on this site? I am running into problems.

Having watched that play a few times it seems to me that the Butler player fouled (pushed) the Gonzaga player to get that steal.

Yes he did. But it was a dumb pass.

The video does not start early enough to see for sure, but I thought the Gonzaga player (their goofy-looking center with the head band) misread the pass. The inbounder expected him to stay close and catch a lob, but he retreated toward the baseline. That's what I saw in this limited video, anyway.

I don't blame him. Butler had all but lost, so anything he could do to win it was worth a shot. Even a foul called would have given Butler a chance to at least touch the ball again.

I don't blame in either but it was pretty clear the guy was running and then got a big push in the back. That coupled with his momentum took him completely out of the play. Any other point in the game that is a foul.

The inbounder was David Stockton, son of John Stockton. His Dad probably had a few choice words for David.

There was a home cooked blocking foul on Gonzaga that was a charge on Butler that contributed to the loss.

Word to the wise, don't leave the game in the hands of the officials on the road. Tomorrow night, I hope we go for a bigger win at UGALY than the win in Gainesville. Don't give the officials the chance to screw up the game. I hope this team doesn't need another Butler to learn this lesson.
