Two teams, two leagues, two chances to play for a championship, two fourth down flubs, one State in common.

Hate the '49'ers. Their uniforms remind me too much of FSU.

And they both blew big leads, wear red, lost by four points, and came up short on last ditch drives on almost the same spot on the same end of the field at the Georgia Dome. The parallels are amazing.

Maybe if they called it the Florida Gator Dome, they may have more success.

I don't know about Mike Smith, but Richt will always choke on the big one.
Here's a quote from a blog in the Atlanta Constipation to refresh your memory about Richt's choke on the big one:
That put the ball at the Alabama 8-yard line with nine seconds left on the clock. Richt vehemently defended his decision to run a hurry-up play at that point, rather than to spike the ball.
“You don’t spike the ball there,” he said. “We had the play we wanted. It takes time to spike the ball, and we’re thinking about maybe (getting) three plays there.
“The clock stopped for the first down (on Lynch’s catch) while we were getting to the line of scrimmage,” Richt said. “We called a play. We called a play we call ‘stout.’ It’s a fade by the outside receiver and a four-step speed-out by the inside receiver. We were attempting to throw the ball to the outside receiver. The ball got batted and just landed, unfortunately, right in the arms of our … inside receiver. Not a good thing, with no timeouts.

It sucks being an Atlanta sports fan sometimes. I was born and raised in Atl but Orange and Blue runs in my family. Thank god I'm not one of the butt sniffers too. :puke:
I think Matty Ice will get a ring or at least play in a SB with the falcons at some point, I sure hope Tony Gonzalez comes back for one more shot at one too.

I'd take Richt over Smith, but both compile meaningless wins.

Living in NE FL is sorta like being in SE GA. Wrong (and yes, I'm sensitive to that tired old charge). Southeast Georgia is much more like Northeast Florida than Georgia. Beaches, no hills, no red clay, no pecan trees, no cotton, etc. All along what I like to call the Florida-Georgia Frontier, from Tallahassee to Fernandina, South Georgia folks watch our TV and read our papers -- not vice-versa.
That said, I was cheering for the Falcons yesterday and started watching the game in the 2nd quarter. Clearly that must have disturbed the space-time continuum. Falcons were doomed. Really too bad because they were damn good and very deserving of a spot in the Super Bowl.

"Oh my God, they are gunning it right down Bama's throat. Murray looks like an All Pro. Where is the Bama pass rush? Another completion. What kind of coverage is that? They are inside the ten! Georgia is going to win this. Bama can't stop them. They will kill Notre Dame!! I can't believe what I am seeing. Georgia is going to with the National Championship. Just spike the ball. This is my worse nightmare. Why didn't we beat them. Spike the ball!

The last play of the SECCG was not 4th down, or we are all idiots for saying Richt should have clocked the ball.
