How much does a NFL DC make? Can't believe what Smart is making at Bama.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Kirby Smart never got a chance to put his Alabama defense up against Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon.
According to one report Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping the two can come together for the 2013 season.
Howard Eskin, a longtime TV/radio reporter in Philadelphia, wrote on his Twitter account that the Eagles were interested in Smart and Georgia's Todd Grantham as candidates to be Kelly's defensive coordinator.
Kelly, Oregon's coach for the past four years, was hired Wednesday as the Eagles' new head coach. He held his first press conference today.
"We’re going to be an attacking style defense," Kelly said. "It’s going to be a group of people who dictates the tempo of the game. What that spacing is in terms of is it a 4-3 spacing or 3-4 spacing, I think it’s, again, looking at our roster and understanding who I have the opportunity to bring here. I can’t tell you that we’re going to be this or going to be that, but I know the style of football that we’re going to play and I know the style of players that I want to have out there.

It is being reported by multiple sources as "interest" by the Eagles. Not seeing anything that's states is happening.
We can hope...but probably not while holding our breath.

Highly doubt it. This guy will be a head coach anywhere he wants if he waits it out one more year. Why risk that now? Unless he doesn't have any aspirations to be a Defensive Coordinator, that is.

$950G's a year is his "reported" salary. I'm sure it's easily double that.....which is why he will not go anywhere and wait on the HC job at Bama when it becomes available.

I never understand the "we can hope this opponent's coach leaves" mentality of Gator fans. We will be competing with and beating Bama again soon. I would rather resume beating them when they are at full strength. This "let's hope Smart leaves" shows fear or at least a lack of confidence -- something I would expect from f$u fans.

Do you think Bama minded beating Texas for the national title, even though Texas wasn't at full strength, after McCoy got injured? Doubt it.

Apples and oranges. How do you equate Gator fans hoping Bama's coaching staff goes away with a player getting hurt during a game? Do you think Bama sat around hoping that McCoy would get injured to make it easier for them to win? Doubt it.

Many of the Atlanta Radio and TV jocks have good connections most of the SEC teams.
Also many big time Bam supporters live in the Atlanta metro area and are on good terms with the Tuscaloosa and the Atlanta media outlets. One of those guys is Jason Cofar is a Bama Graf and is a producer for Atlanta 680 AM The Fan.

Ha. Smart is the Mickey Andrews of Alabama. Were he capable of being a HC, he'd have gone long ago. Ask WM how long you should wait for an older HC to step aside.

Saban and Smart seem to work well together, so that might not be the same kind of relationship he would have with any team in the League. The money is great but the shelf life is very short lived in most cases.
Quinn left us not because he disliked UF or college ball, but that he already had an outstanding relationship with Carroll and the Seahawks and Seattle in general. He was a pro guy all the way and Muschamp knew it was just a matter of time.
The NFL is big business, just ask Spurrier how his owners affected his stay with the Skins, and college ball is just more fun and fulfilling. Millionaire owners and players might be more difficult to deal with than college HC's and AD's.
But then again, maybe Jawga opens up and there you have it!

Beyond the delusional aspect of it, I don't see the harm in hoping Bama loses Smart. I don't have a problem with them getting weaker while we get stronger. After the last three embarrassments, I'd enjoy beating the snot out of them way more than eeking out a close win.
That said, Smart ain't going nowhere. Give it up. Bill Belichek will quit New England to coach the Jaguars before that happens.

I don't think Gator fans are scared they just want to see other Coaching Staffs have to deal with the turmoil of replacing a good coach with the uncertainty of a new one like we've had to deal with.

Saban / Alabama are at the top of their game---fla fans better hope they do something different or lose coaches---if not, they will be dominating the SEC and BCS for years. Saban may end up with 4-5 more titles before he gets through.

Because I like to see them knocked down a notch. I want to win. I don't give a damn about the cliche of beating a team at "their best."

Bama sure seems to get the type of schedules that UG gets. They have another easy year next year for being an SEC team. No way do I believe they would have won the NC this year if they had our schedule. I also do not see KS leaving until UG (which is not happening soon) or Saban leaves. Looks like Saban and Smart are blood brothers with a pact.

Huh? Their defense underperformed this year. They had a decent stretch towards the end of the season but got lit up by both Bama and Nebraska. Their offense (Richt's strength) was one of the better offenses in the country, save for their South Carolina meltdown (and us, damn 6 turnovers...).

Agree w/ this. The longer Smart hangs around, not taking lesser head coaching offers, it seems this is the case. Saban is 60. Does he have the desire to go 5, 10 more years? I think this current stint at Bama is his longest tenure at any job (assistant or head coach). He was at LSU for what, 5 years?
So....I'd be surprised to see Smart take that job at Philly.

Things never really work out that way.
Maybe its "hubris" but all great runs come to an end sooner rather than later.
Saban has been lucky two years in a row.
The rest of the conference is not in decline, except maybe LSU, which is debatable.
Arkansas will get better. A&M is already a contender and for some reason Auburn can go from chicken s$%t to chicken salad overnight.
Georgia will continue to be very good, although it will continue to be Georgia.
Tennessee, contrary to all the talk, will get better. Vanderbilt is a story now, Spurrier will always "have a chance", and Florida?
Probably the second best program in America going into next season.
To be the best you have to beat the best.
Bring on Bama.

A coach doesn't factor into the SOS. Their players are still good enough to win.

The point I'm making is a coach can affect the strength of a team and therefore the SOS of the opponents who play them. Dooley was able to hold his own at UGa. Look at Spurrier at USC.

Georgia will continue to be Georgia? Richt will continue to be Richt? FYI, our coach is 0-2 vs. UGA and Richt. Silly argument. We all know football success has cycles...and they've won the SEC East and beaten us two years in a row. True story.

Grantham is the problem, not Richt. He'll be just like Smart. We won't be rid of him till we're rid of Richt, so the jokes about hoping Richt stays at UGA forever have really gotten stale.
As long as we're in the crappy boat we're in now with coaching turnover, I absolutely do want to see the other programs suffer likewise. We aren't on probation and we are in the hottest hotbed of high school talent in the nation, yet our roster numbers always put us in a hurt compared to Saban's oversigning tactics. Pile on top of that we can't keep a coordinator for more than a year or two. We are a top level FBS program. Urban Meyer got us to the point where we should have been able to reload on players and have assistants topping off their resumes here. We aren't obligated to fight with one hand tied behind our backs, and I'm sick of it.
