Reid's net worth prior to public service was $1-$1.5 M and his disclosure statements now have him at $3-$10 M +. No, he doesn't accept bribes. He's just thrifty.

If Reid accepted a bribe, then throw the book at him. But if you read the story, Reid's connection to this is pretty uncertain.

As one of our career politicians Reid is entitled to all the bribes he can get. And we shouldn't expect him to pay any taxes on them, though he accused Mitt Romney of not paying income tax.

Honestly, I haven't read the article, I don't know the quality of the evidence or have any thought on his actual guilt or innocence.
What I do wonder though is... what book? Whose arm? I think the political class, particularly that arm of it that maintains proper fealty to the fourth estate (which includes even large swaths of the GOP) exists entirely beyond the notion of criminal law short of another allegation like that against Gary Condit. But bribery, graft, perjury? They will only be meaningful insofar as they generate outrage. Right now, I just genuinely don't believe more than 1 in 10 of his voters would give a damn even if he was videotaped taking a payoff.

He would claim that the videotaped payoff was just make-believe, he thought he was taking part in a movie. Playing himself, of course.
