For what it is worth, UF is ranked 3rd best value for public colleges nationwide by Kiplinger. Not too shabby....

7th best is New College of Florida. For whatever reason, I've never heard of this one.

New college of Florida is good, good thing you didn't say state college of Florida the former manatee community college lol! I think they had Florida somewhere in the 60's or 70's overall with all schools recently in a news article which is damn good... There were only a few public schools ahead of them...

I work with a graduate of NC and my son graduated from New College of Florida (after we moved to G'ville so we could afford to send him to UF!). It is very good and a bit quirky. Students design their own curriculum and instead of letter grades they get a written assessment. This last bit caused a bit of consternation to the admissions office of his chosen graduate school in Germany (Vat iz dis? No Grades?) but by providing them his high school IB diploma and the assessments, he got in. New college touts itself as the Liberal arts Honor College. It really is good but takes a disciplined student.
