has anyone compiled a comparison of recruiting ranking vs final team standings for a given year?

i'd like to see how they compare over, say, a 4 year average and how that compares to your finish for a given year in the BCS.

anyone have that info? say for the top 10 classes each year or top 10 teams each season.

would be instructive to rate how coaches are doing in developing their players or whether it's important to have a top 5 class each year.

anyone w/ that data?

They do that every year. It's not conclusive, but the recruiting services are getting better at this every year. Look how well the SEC recruits and then how well they do on the field, especially Bama.

It's kind of a standard that correlates. You can't consistently stay in the top 20 end of year rankings without doing the same in recruiting.
Having top classes doesn't guarantee this, of course, but without high recruiting rankings you won't stay competitive for long.

The Zook years are an excellent example of this ^^^

By this I mean having great recruiting classes but not great results on the field.

Sounds to me like you are volenteering to do this. I can't wait to see your data.
