I wanted to get my back-up PC(ZT Affinity w\ core i-7 cpu) working since I haven't used it since I bought my Gateway w\ a second gen i-7 CPU) so I could install Win-8 on it. Unfortunately it's
intermittent as sometimes it won't boot at all or it will boot all the way but takes forever to do so. I don't know if it's because a problem that developed when the movers packed it a few weeks ago or because I haven't used it for over a year.

I tried to boot it from a WSin 7 rescue disk that I created from the control panel but it didn't help.

Can someone give me advice on what to do?

Btw, what are the symptoms if a CMOS battery is either going bad or is bad?

Thanks all...

Usually when the battery goes bad the time will be screwed up when you turn it back on. There can also be issues with it starting up as the BIOS needs the battery to help with boot-up. If you think it is this then the few dollars they cost might be worth the investment just to eliminate that possibility.

Your welcome. I have an older Dell that I am going to change the battery in since I think it has gone bad. If you change yours and it doesn't help let us know.

Will do.

My ZT has more problems than i thought, one is that I used an evaluation copy of Win 7 but never upgraded it.

I might also a HDD going bad since sometimes when attempting to boot up & I try to do a System Restore sometimes no restore point are found & sometimes they are but it never completes the system restore. Then I tried system recovery also to no avail.

When on a rare occasion it does get to the Win 7 logon screen and it loads windows after I log in, it takes forever ot locks up after the windows activation scrren is displayed.

I'll probably try loading a fresh copy of Win 8 on it since its cheaper then 7.

Did you try a complete reformat? I'm assuming you already lost all of your data on the computer.

I was fortunate, a battery replacement in my older puter solved the problem with it. I did a reinstall of XP and the thing runs along quite nicely now.

Were you losing data or was something else was happening.
