In what looked to be a promising future with the steelers changed quickly when chris rainey was released today. I just hate when people waste talent by repeating the same mistakes.

Wow... what a dumb ass. I didn't expect him to get on the field as much as he did for the Steelers, and then he blows it off the field.

Steelers are dumb, he was a great 3rd down back, one of the most electric players on the team.

He's always had an attitude problem

I've always had good interactions with him. He was always nice to me & my son. He went out of his way one year after fan day to find my son because he missed Chris due to being sick when we were near the RB line. He even remembered my nephew after not seeing him for a year.

He's made mistakes, no doubt but I've never had the "attitude problem" issue with him. You may have had a completely different experience so I respect your opinion.

he is taking one for the team, or should I say Big Ben

that being said, he's an idiot

i wonder if it is the same girl...if so, he is even more of an idiot

I think we all have besetting sins, areas in our lives that remain a bit out of control. Some areas are much worse like hitting another woman. But let's be honest, most if not all of us are repeat offenders too. Having said that, no excuse for what he did.

Saw the same comment on one of the ESPN stories. "The Steelers have no problem keeping a QB who collects rape accusations, but an open-handed slap? No sir, we can't tolerate something like that on our team."

Hypocrites. They keep Ben "ruthlessbanger" the rapist, yet cut Rainey for something far less heinous.

Oh....I thought he got released for no reason. Ah well. I guess getting paid to play football wasn't enough to keep him honest. Usually that does the trick. If Burfict can clean up his act then there's no hope for Rainey if he still thinks he's in college town.

The big dummy blew it. He'll be lucky to get on the practice squad of another team.

good for the steelers to grow a spine against violence against women. Too bad they allowed another guy to get away with it

I think he has a short man's complex. Taking it out on woman his size. He deserved to get fired. Idiot.

It looks like this was a different girl. One he's dated for 9 months. She must be from Gainesville or in school because why would he be there?

This is getting crazy.
No way should he get fired over this, aren't we all still innocent until proven guilty in this country?
No way does anyone here condone what he did, but no one here can say they know what really happened either. For all we know they both could've been high on something, or she may have threatened to stab him in his sleep or something. Enough excuses, what he did was a bad thing, but I never expected this to be the price.
Chris Rainey, victim of PC run amok. In a sport where you can get f**ked up, shoot people, kill dogs, and bang chicks that aren't your wife, Chris found the line in the sand.

Chris has yet to learn that you don't date and continue to play the field. His girl didn't like it very much and then instead of walking away, he walked right back into it.

It's amazing how dumb people can be.

Once a knucklehead always a knucklehead - why, with his history, would he ever set foot back in Gainesville?

Did he play much last year? Only saw a couple of Steelers games and didn't see him get many touches

Slapping someone who's robbing you is okay in my books male or female

Is she was trying to take off with his phone, stealing it, what does anyone suggest is appropriate response to get it back?Easy. Call the phone company. Report it as stolen. Buy a new one. He could afford it. Until he was fired.

As for due process, there is none for this type of celebrity privilege. He forfeited his via his poor decisions.

Sounds more like he bitch-slapped her then executed a open filed tackle on her to get the phone. I don't get these guys. I hope he get's his life in order. Great talent. As the black gals said in Being there" "he's done been short-changed by the lord", they were talking about Chancy Gardeners intelligence. I love when some of the Einsteins do a dirty hit or a penalty and then shake their head like the refs are wrong. (yes, ref's are wrong occasionally) but Dude...20 million people just saw your dumb ass move on a replay and a stadium full of folks saw it on the jumbo-tron...WTF? If I have bad thoughts go through my head, and I do, I just have this shuddering fear some of the mothers from school, the priest or God might be watching. That quickly has me regroup. The thought of the mothers at school spreading the word of something bad?...sheesh. It would get to God from them through gossip before he would have ever known...

The NFL is filled with bad actors who have done far worse things than slapping a woman (apparently not hard enough to cause any injury), even assuming he did that which he denies. There's at least one guy who plead guilty to DUI/manslaughter still playing, Aquib Talib has been arrested I don't know how many times including once for punching out a cab driver, ditto for Jeremy Stevens who continued playing despite a variety of arrests, etc. etc. I certainly don't condone slapping a woman if that's what he did but booting him off the team when he denies slapping her and before there's been a hearing, plea, or trial seems a little over the top to me, especially by a team that has Ben Rothlesberger as its QB (yeah, I know, he got off without being charged, whoopee).

But i bet she was the aggressor.

Report it as stolen and don't talk to the woman ever again.

Was Beyonce his girlfriend? I would say probably not.

Well, if somebody is trying to steal my stuff, male or female, they aren't walking away with it unless they have a firearm pointed in my direction.

Meyer should have manned up and taught the kid a lesson when he had the chance. Placed winning above all else.

Here is the deal on Chris (my wife talked to him the day he was arrested the first time.)

He is an undersocialized, talented, charming kid. He is smart enough, but he has the emotional development of a 10 year old. There are tons of other players out there just like him.

I like Chris, wish him well, but he needs a lot of support to stay out of trouble.

So Chris Rainey's misdeeds are all Urban Meyer's fault?

Good grief!

Rainey suffers from wanna be player-itis...they wanna keep a straight laced gf but keep their down low mack player activities on the side...then when they get caught don't know how to handle the situation.....such a rookie .....however these women should know you can't tame this wild eye wondering cat

PFT reporting Rainey had two other run-ins with the law this season. I'm sure the Steelers were aware and this was STEEEEEEEEEEEE-RIKE THREE!

I think Chris is a stand up guy with alot of social issues, probably not that different from alot of us. We all make mistakes, we all have demons to deal with. He needs to not put himself in these situations. And if another poster wants to criticize his coach, probably the biggest male role model in his life, or his friends, or his Mamma, or whomever, I don't see how that's off limits. If I screwed up, and my friends could have helped, I'd want someone to call out my friends.
